Northwest Passage is dedicated to restoring hope through innovative mental health services for children and families. Since 1978, Northwest Passage has been a leader in the development of programs and services for children and adolescents who are struggling with the profound impact of mental illness and severe behavioral disorders. Northwest Passage’s mission and underlying goal has always been to provide highly individualized and comprehensive care to at-risk youth on the verge of failing out of society and facing the prospect of years of incarceration and institutionalization. Programming includes guidance, direction, individual and family counseling, social services, special education, adventure challenges, restitution and community service, vocational training, and aftercare services. Clients in the Northwest Passage programs participate in school, physical activities, life skills training, therapy, and community service activities on a day-to-day basis. We serve approximately 500 at-risk youth each year. We have 3 residential treatment programs and a facility providing 30-day clinical assessments.

We also offer various other extracurricular club and non-club activities, including arts and crafts, board games, chess, choir, e-sports, hydroponic gardening, international cooking, jazz band, makerspace, movie club, theater, virtual reality, and yearbook/multimedia. Among our many advantages, NCA provides students with a serene learning environment that leans into nature as a means of helping maximize the development of the whole self. We promote the pursuit of natural curiosity and prize kindness, goodness, thoughtfulness, and personal responsibility. Students in grades 11 or 12 can also apply for admission to one of our university pathway programs. If accepted, they can earn up to 60 university credits and are guaranteed acceptance to the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, the University of Minnesota Duluth, or Middle Tennessee State University.
