In 2006, several community partners joined the Healthy Community Council to conduct a needs assessment. The results of the Healthy Community Council Report showed that significant challenges in accessing health care in the area existed. From that designation an action committee formed and successfully created the Harrisonburg Community Health Center, Inc. In 2009, HCHC became a non-profit 501(c)3 federally qualified health center, allowing it the support to be a true universal access medical facility.
