In November 1970, Central Virginia Health Services opened in rural Buckingham County, becoming the first community health center in Virginia. The site, Central Virginia Community Health Center (CVCHC) was created to serve the health care needs of residents of the rural counties of Buckingham, Cumberland, and Fluvanna. Initially operating out of three trailers in each of the three counties, practice operations were consolidated into the Gold Hill community of Buckingham County. CVHS has grown and today is Virginia’s largest community health center both in terms of numbers of sites as well as number of patients. Each site added to CVHS was developed as a result of identified needs in each respective community. Over time, it became apparent that urban as well as rural communities struggled to meet residents’ health care needs. Each of CVHS’ communities shares common problems in terms of disease, access, poverty or lack of insurance as well as unique characteristics and needs that each site addresses. It is our mission to offer highest quality healthcare to all in Northeastern North Carolina in a culturally sensitive, respectful manner with a special emphasis on reaching the underserved. Rural Health Group, Inc. is a non-profit, federally qualified community health center dedicated to providing primary medical care, dental care, and other health-related services to our region’s underserved. Founded in 1974, Rural Health Group, Inc. grew out of a community collaboration of concerned citizens to provide low-cost and free health care services to people living in Northeastern North Carolina. Click on our locations to view where we currently operate. As the community’s only safety net clinic, our responsibility to the growing number of uninsured in our community is immense. We are the insurance plan for the region’s poor. * No one is ever refused service because of inability to pay (“inability to pay” is explicitly defined as those patients with annual household income of 200% and below the federal poverty level). * All of our services are offered on a sliding fee scale based upon income and family size. * Over 30,000 people have received care at Rural Health Group, Inc. Our board of directors is comprised of >50% active patients of the health center. In addition to patients, we have expertise on our board from financial planners, attorneys, health care providers and administrators. We have a well-rounded, experienced board dedicated to increasing access to care while managing a fiscally sound organization. The board directs senior management that all decisions must undergo thorough business modeling, cost-benefit analysis and program development.
