Our mission is to feed Southwest Virginia's hungry through a network of partners and engage our region in the fight to end hunger. The food bank serves 26 counties and 9 cities across a region where 1 in 8 people and 1 in 5 kids face hunger. We host engaging and meaningful corporate volunteer experiences at all three locations, including the Salem Distribution Center, the Abingdon Distribution Center, and the Community Solutions Center in Roanoke's Melrose neighborhood.

*Coordinate and ensure that the core services of the Early Education Services department are being provided equitably.*Supervise and evaluate the Early Education Specialist completing a minimum of an annual written performance review.*Collect information about the child care demand as well as the existing child care population.*When needed, assess program/classroom needs utilizing appropriate classroom assessment tools and collaboratively develop individualized goals and action plans.*Provide technical assistance to administrators and early educators as needed through consultation, mentoring and coaching to help improve their program quality.*Assist in providing technical assistance and resources to individuals interested in opening a childcare facility.*Develop and manage the Smart Start budget for the Early Education Services activities.*Coordinate the annual training calendar for the early education community.*Obtain approval for all trainings from DCDEE, contract with trainers, reserve locations, and assist Administrative Assistant with managing registration and payment.*Develop and deliver in-service trainings regularly and coordinate training series for administrators, early educators or parents when appropriate.*Coordinate and facilitate bi-monthly Child Care Collaboration Support Team meetings.*Manage the Early Education Services database for the tracking of training attendance, technical assistance visits, and Education Incentives applications.*Complete Quarterly Reports for all programs listed above and review information with the Program Coordinator/Evaluator and/or Contracted Evaluator and the Executive Director.*Plan and coordinate special childcare events that includes the Week of The Young Child annual children’s parade and Early Educator Celebration.*Serve on relevant agency and community committees as an early childhood representative for RCPC.

The Local Office on Aging is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. We are dedicated to our mission of helping older persons remain independent for as long as possible. To effectively carry out this mission, we administer over 25 community services that provide nutrition, education, advocacy and socialization. We strive to enhance the quality of life in the home, help individuals stay in their homes and avoid early institutionalization, provide support to caregivers of the elderly, and advocate for quality services, medical care, and housing for the elderly. LOA is funded by federal, state, and local governments, corporate and private foundations, United Way, Foundation for Roanoke Valley, donations and fund raising. Our agency serves those 60+ in the Fifth Planning District in the Commonwealth of Virginia, including Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, and Roanoke counties and the cities of Covington, Roanoke, and Salem.
