Responsible for key HR functions for the Deserado Coal Mine, a 160+ employee operation that mines and ships 2 million tons of low-sulfur steam coal to the Bonanza Power Plant each year. Administer the Cooperative’s benefits for active employees including: initial and open enrollments and changes to enrollments relating to health, dental vision, life, AD&D insurance; prescription; disability; HSA, Pension and 401(k) plan. Ensures compliance with all plans. Oversee the recruiting and hiring process, including posting of position vacancy notices and other recruiting measures, screening of applicants, planning and coordination of interviews, participating in interviews, recommending selections, preparation of offer letters, processing of background checks and drug screens, including pre-employment physicals, and new hire orientations, including benefits enrollment. Perform difficult staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, administering disciplinary procedures, and representing the organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
