EQUAL HEART
EQUAL HEART
Dallas, Texas
1-24 employees
Equal Heart is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with programs in Dallas, Houston, Austin and Denver, Colorado. We are currently engaged in hunger relief efforts but our work is always guided by our desire to support, not rescue, those currently experiencing hardship. HUNGER RELIEF Equal Heart provides 10,000 meals a day to children living in poverty through participation in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). As of Summer 2015, we are the among the five largest SFSP sponsors in Texas. We leverage the infrastructure built to operate federally funded child nutrition programs with private funds to provide a year round mobile food pantry and grocery store to over 2,000 families living in food desserts that lack transportation or other resources to seek adequate food supplies. EMPLOYMENT Equal Heart’s AmeriCorps program will provide Disconnected Youth with access to skills training, character development, mentoring, GED classes when needed, and job experience. Through their participation these members will impact their community by providing food supplies to children and families living in poverty. Doing so will decrease the chances that the next generation of our youth enter the juvenile justice system while the service gives the Disconnected Youth immediate reinforcement on their worth and ability to be a force for change.
