Bank of the Lowcountry is the “hometown bank” of the communities it serves and we are committed to provide personal and efficient service to our customers. Member FDIC and Equal Housing Lender Bank of the Lowcountry is a local community bank founded in Walterboro, SC – the “front porch of the Lowcountry.” Our institution was founded by ten prominent Walterboro businessmen in October of 1988, resulting in the first commercial chartered bank organized in Walterboro in over 65 years. Bank of the Lowcountry officially opened its doors for business under its original name, Bank of Walterboro, in 1989 with only nine original employees. To better serve our customers in Charleston County, the Bank opened its second branch in Ravenel, SC in 1997. Our third branch was opened in 2003 to help accommodate customer demand in our hometown. Originally designed as a drive-up location, our Forest Hills branch was later converted to a full-service branch. That year we also opened a branch in Ridgeland, SC to better serve the residents of Jasper and Beaufort counties. Like all Credit Unions, Georgia Heritage Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative. We have enjoyed a long, remarkable history as one of the oldest locally owned financial institutions in the area. The Union Bag Federal Credit Union was organized on April 15, 1940, to serve the employees of the Union Bag Corporation working at the Savannah paper factory. In 1966, the Credit Union changed its name to Union Camp Savannah Federal Credit Union to coincide with the new name of its sponsor group. Having remained a single sponsor organization for 59 years, the Credit Union changed its name to Georgia Heritage FCU in 1999 when Union Camp was purchased by International Paper. In 2006, the Credit Union received a community charter, which allows anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Chatham, Effingham and Bryan counties to join. We are owned and operated by our members, and exist solely for the purpose of serving our members' best interests. Our vision is to build lifelong relationships with everyone we serve.

Founded in 1927 by Louis B. Toomer as the Georgia Savings and Realty Corporation, Carver State Bank is currently one of only 21 Black-owned banks in the United States. Under the leadership of Toomer and the continued legacy of its second president, Lawrence D. Perry, Carver became a full-service commercial bank, changing its name to Carver State Bank in 1962.
