Sharonview was created in 1955, after 20 manufacturing employees met with a representative from the North Carolina Credit Union League. From that meeting the credit union was formed with only $11,000 in assets. In 1955, 15 civilian employees at Shaw Air Force base in Sumter, South Carolina pooled their money to charter SAFE Federal Credit Union.
