In 1936 J. Wesley Beasley opened the first office of Carolina Bank on Railroad Avenue in Lamar, Darlington County, South Carolina. Today, Carolina Bank serves communities located throughout northeastern South Carolina. And since its founding, three generations of the Beasley family have, and continue to manage the daily activities of the bank. J. Wesley Beasley’s ideal, that the community is best served by a locally based bank that is in close touch with the needs and desires of the people it serves, is as true today in practice as it was in his first branch office in 1936. Carolina Bank’s branch offices are scattered throughout six counties of northeastern South Carolina. They offer a wide range of banking services to meet every personal or business need. Its branch managers and staff, many of who are long serving employees, live in the communities they serve. As such, they are able to practice J. Wesley Beasley’s idea and make loan decisions quickly based on local economic factors along with personal or business circumstances. Carolina Bank’s managers and staff understand the people of South Carolina because they share a common heritage and values. In addition to traditional and electronic bank services, Carolina Bank, through specialists in its CB&T Financial Services Division, offers a wide range of insurance and financial products including stocks, mutual funds, financial planning, and retirement plans for businesses and individuals alike. The Financial Services Division’s knowledgeable specialists meet with customers at any Carolina Bank location, or in customers’ homes or places of business at times convenient to its customers. Mid Carolina Credit Union was chartered and opened in 1961 as a benefit for the employees of the Dupont May Plant. Over our five decades of operation, Mid Carolina Credit Union has grown from a single employee operation based in the plant guardhouse to a financial institution with four offices, four ATM’s, account access via telephones and computers and a staff of more than 40 employees. Mid Carolina Credit Union’s charter has been expanded from our original sponsor to include multiple employment groups and anyone who lives, works or attends school in Kershaw or Richland County. PALMETTO FIRST FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
PALMETTO FIRST FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
Florence, South Carolina

Palmetto First FCU is the longest standing Florence credit union, established in November 1953. The purpose of the Florence ACL Employees Credit Union was twofold: to create thrift through savings of the employee and to provide credit at a minimum rate of interest for members desiring the same. The credit union opened for business on January 4, 1954, in a small corner room furnished by the railroad, adjacent to the passenger station. The name of the credit union began as Florence ACL Employees Credit Union, changed to Florence SCL Employees Credit Union, then to Florence Seaboard Credit Union, and finally to Seaboard Trust Federal Credit Union. These name changes reflect the many changes that the railroads have seen over the years. Through the years, Seaboard Trust Federal Credit Union has relied on the support of railroad employees and their families to become the strong financial institution that it is today. Seaboard Trust is fortunate to have added several other employer groups, growing the current membership to over 7,000. On January 1, 2004 Seaboard Trust changed their name to Palmetto First Federal Credit Union to reflect their change in charter. We were approved for a community charter, which allows all persons who live, work, worship, attend school, or business and other legal entities located in Florence County to join Palmetto First. To obtain membership to Palmetto First Federal Credit Union you must live, work, worship, or attend school in Florence County.
