Over four decades of service... We've grown and changed, but always remain focused on teens and families The late 1960’s and early 1970’s were a turbulent time for teenagers and their families. Many young people were running away from home as a social statement. Others were running from harmful conditions. The Eugene/ Springfield community, like other communities across the nation, was ill equipped to deal with this growing problem. Few satisfactory options were available. Enter Deborah Waernes, age 17, who had been a runaway, gone through the juvenile court system, and had lived in several foster and family shelter homes. Deborah saw the need for a program that could help youth and families resolve their problems so running away wasn’t necessary. She turned to others in the community who also shared her concern. Through their combined efforts, Looking Glass was born. After a year of planning, the agency opened its doors in 1970. The original Looking Glass staff was made up entirely of volunteers from social services, mental health, higher education, the clergy and other concerned individuals. Funding came strictly from community donations until 1973 when the first grant was received. Over the years, the agency has broadened its mission and expanded its services to meet the ever-changing needs of children, youth and families. Today, Looking Glass is the largest private, nonprofit provider of services for troubled youth in Lane County, Oregon. The agency offers an array of social services and employs a highly skilled, professional staff, while still maintaining a strong volunteer corps. Funding is diversified and comes from governmental contracts, private insurance, fees for service, charitable giving and United Way.

Direction Service is a multi-program, family support agency located in Eugene, Oregon. Direction Service began in 1976 at the University of Oregon. Since then, it's become an independent, private, non-profit corporation funded through public and private donations as well as local and federal support. Direction Service presently has four programs: Direction Service Counseling Center, Youth and Family Services, and The Center for Appropriate Dispute Resolution in Special Education (CADRE).

Crisis Response In times of crisis, White Bird is key agency in the continuum of care for our community. We are Lane County’s Crisis Intervention Service. We are the Mobile Crisis and Medic response team for Eugene-Springfield’s Public Safety System. We are a member of Lane County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD). Health Response We operate a Medical and Dental Clinic at our office at 1400 Mill Street, a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program at our office at 350 E. 11th, and ongoing Outpatient Mental Health services, Crisis intervention services, and information and referral at 341 E. 12th Avenue. Our priority is to serve people who are unserved, underinsured, disabled and/or homeless. We offer assistance to help folks sign up for insurance and Medicaid and Homeless Case Management at our office at 323 E. 12th Ave.

• Recruited volunteers and generated donations by going to events alone by setting up a booth to promote the organization and inform the Eugene community and perspective donors about Centro Latino Americano and their services • Arranged boxes of food with Food For Lane County and delivered the boxes to Latino families • Facilitated learning of critical language skills and development to improve written and oral skills of a second language learner by using creative instructional methods

HIV Alliance's mission is "supporting individuals living with HIV/AIDS and preventing new HIV infections."​ We accomplish this mission through: Comprehensive, compassionate care and referrals for people affected by HIV/AIDS, Free and confidential HIV testing and counseling. Hepatitis C, and STI screenings as well. Culturally-appropriate safer-sex outreach to people at high risk of infection, Free syringe exchange, bio-hazard disposal, and first aid supplies to injection drug users, and education to high-risk populations, health and social service professionals, international delegations, and the general public.

The Community Outreach is an ecumenical non-profit ministry that has existed in the Sioux Falls area for over 30 years. The ministry was founded by local clergy who saw a need to supplement the welfare programs state and local entities offered. The ministry strives to fill in some of the gaps left by the public welfare system, while personally relating to and caring for each person who comes to us. We are generously supported by churches, the United Way, businesses and private donations … and have become well known in the area as a place to go for help. We serve more than 8000 people per year in four main areas: 1. Crisis Care financial assistance for rent, utilities, and work-related transportation; 2. Information and referral to other social service agencies (We act as a clearing house for social services information.); and 3. Genesis Mentoring Program works by teaching financial management skills through adult mentoring to empower a new beginning. 4. Hezekiah House where we partner with you to make a house your home through financial education and home ownership skills.
