SMITH PAVING & EXCAVATING, INC.
SMITH PAVING & EXCAVATING, INC.
Norwalk, Ohio
50-99 employees
Founded by Mike Smith in 1970, Smith & Company initially concentrated on the earthwork construction needs of customers in oil field related projects . Industrial site work, excavation, land clearing, grading and asphalt paving were natural additions to the services provided to an expanding customer list. By 1980 the company had grown, but times were challenging. The general economic conditions influenced the decision of Smith & Company to seek growth as a highway contractor. During the 1980's the company successfully completed several Texas Highway Department contracts and numerous county and municipal road and street projects. At the same time, the company developed distribution yards with hot mix asphalt and road base stabilization plants to assure a reliable source of aggregate and paving materials . In 1991 the company doubled its workforce and available equipment with the purchase of the operations of a retiring highway contractor. This growth enabled Smith & Company to complete several larger projects, including a mile-long bridge on State Highway 242, and a new road and bridge over the Trinity River, just south of the Lake Livingston Dam. Throughout this time, the company continued to serve its existing customer base, completing numerous industrial and private projects. Today, Smith & Company is in a unique position to serve its customers in Montgomery and surrounding counties with a complete package of road building services and materials.
