THE COLLEGE OF WOOSTER
THE COLLEGE OF WOOSTER
Wooster, Ohio
500+ employees
The College of Wooster is America’s premier college for mentored undergraduate research. Since 2002, U.S. News & World Report has asked college presidents and deans which colleges provide the best undergraduate research opportunities and senior capstone program. Only two have made both lists every year: Wooster and Princeton. The presidents and deans also ranked Wooster seventh among all liberal arts colleges in America where “the faculty has an unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.” Founded in 1866, Wooster enrolls approximately 2,000 students, who choose from more than 50 academic programs in the sciences, humanities, business and the arts. Wooster offers an excellent, comprehensive liberal arts education, culminating in a rigorous senior project, in which each student works one-on-one with a faculty mentor to conceive, organize and complete a significant research project on a topic of the student’s own choosing. Through this distinctive program, every Wooster student develops abilities valued by employers and graduate schools alike: initiative, self-confidence, independent judgment, creative problem solving, and strong written and oral communication skills. Almost a third of Wooster’s students play intercollegiate athletics, a third perform in at least on musical group, and a quarter are involved in theatre and the arts. Notable Wooster alumni include award-winning filmmakers Duncan Jones ’95, director of Source Code and Moon, and J.C. Chandor ’96, writer and director of Margin Call and All Is Lost; Jennifer Haverkamp ’79, director of the Environmental Defense Fund’s international climate program; Donald Kohn ’64, former vice chairman of the Federal Reserve; Laurie Kosanovich ’94, general counsel for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; and Sangram Sisodia ’77, director of the Center for Molecular Neurobiology at the University of Chicago.

LAKE ERIE CONSTRUCTION CO.
LAKE ERIE CONSTRUCTION CO.
Norwalk, Ohio
100-499 employees
Lake Erie Construction Company developed from a very humble beginning, over 80 years ago, when Paul Bleile began operating a tree service out of his garage. His equipment consisted of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with an attached toolbox fashioned out of its sidecar. His only employee rode on the toolbox. He worked that way for two years, doing business in a 50 mile radius with gross sales of $3,000 to $5,000 per year. To survive the depression, Paul decided the business had to diversify so he moved into landscape contracting. What was only once one man’s dream has turned into one of Norwalk, Ohio’s largest employers, the Lake Erie Construction Company, formerly the Paul E. Bleile Co. Lake Erie Construction is a specialty contractor that provides installation services for Guardrails, signs, fence, raised pavement markers, noise barrier walls, impact attenuators, along with seeding, sodding, and landscaping services for roadways, as established over 80 years ago. The company works on 400-600 projects annually. Most the company’s work is in a subcontractor’s role in the state of Ohio, but they have also worked as the general contractor in Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana, Georgia, and Florida over the years. Paul’s son, Bob, along with other family members were instrumental in getting the company into the highway safety product lines which took place from 1950-1980. These growth areas now represent the largest share of our business today. Bob also started The Firelands Supply Company, a landscape and construction material supplier. Which still today supplies most of the company’s materials. Three of Bob’s sons, Dave, Mike, and Ken, along with Ray Chapin, now manage Lake Erie Construction along with its 150 employees who are some of the most experienced and knowledgeable in the industry. Please get into contact with us if you need any of these types of projects completed.
