LifeWorks Community Action, formerly Saratoga County EOC, helps thousands of neighbors each year overcome the challenges of poverty by providing food, early childhood education, energy services, maternal and childhood wellness, and immigrant services. Popular programs include The Pantry in Ballston Spa and The Kitchen in Saratoga Springs, as well as Head Start, WIC and Weatherization. A variety of social services are provided to diverse cross sections of our community through ACAP's outreach offices in Albany and Cohoes as well as its numerous early childhood development classrooms throughout Albany County. ACAP’s History Started in 1966, ACAP is one of New York’s 52 Community Action Agencies (CAA’s) and one of 1000 nationwide. ACAP’s purpose as Albany County’s CAA remains the same today as when we opened our doors over 40 years ago, which is to offer connections and services that help economically vulnerable individuals strengthen their families. The Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany (NABA) is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to assisting blind or visually impaired individuals to achieve independence and growth. NABA began on December 7, 1908, when ten blind men and women came together in an effort to overcome the difficulties of adjusting to their vision loss. Today NABA provides services and support that are responsive and flexible to the unique needs of each person we serve throughout 14 counties across eastern New York. 301 Washington Avenue in Albany houses our offices, the Dr. Harry M. Judge Rehabilitation Center and the NABA Manufacturing Department. Impaired or low vision can occur at any stage of life due to accident, aging or disease. NABA’s services for the blind and visually impaired include low vision exams, Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT), Orientation and Mobility Training (O&M), disability counseling, social work, living skills, blindness training, job readiness for both employees and employers, job coaching, blind children's services, recreation for vision impaired children, volunteer opportunities, adaptive services for seniors’ independence and growth, assistive technological services and products, services for the visually impaired. NABA’s KidSight Program provides free vision screening for children between the ages of 18 months and four years. NABA is overseen by a Board of Directors and employs over 100 individuals. Additionally, NABA provides a variety of opportunities for volunteers and interns. Little Scholars is always innovating, which is why our ideas and curriculum stimulate all five essential areas of development: Social and emotional learning Cognitive skills Physical and motor development Self-help and adaptive skills Communication and language Our teachers use books and daily activities that fall within the established curriculum to help each child develop these important areas while also being attentive to each child’s unique way of learning. We want Little Scholars to be the first option parents think of when they are searching for daycare in Brooklyn. Our child care centers ensure that all kids experience a safe, progressive and enjoyable learning environment. The Modern Learn Through Play method provides children with an opportunity to excel in their studies, develop their own interests and have fun at the same time. During the learning process, we promote group learning and practicing social skills. The caregivers work with kids aged 0 to 5 who are studying in different programs: Nursery School for two years old 3-year-old preschool Pre-k School Preschool The teachers in our Brooklyn child care center strive to constantly implement modern teaching methods and educational techniques. When implementing new ways of teaching, we encourage the educational teams to work on contemporary and out-of-the-box concepts to make them appropriate for early childhood development. In our daycare, we always take into account the needs of parents and the individuality of each child. Thus, the Little Scholars team appreciates the cooperation of two major institutions — family and education.
