The original 22-bed Catholic nursing home first opened in 1947, and care was provided directly by the Sisters of the Poor Servants of the Mother of God. The Sisters mission did not waiver as Pennybyrn grew into a full service Retirement Community, offering exceptional living experiences for Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, and Transitional Rehab services. Children’s Home Society of NC has been building families through adoption and foster care for over 115 years. We place approximately 400 children each year in permanent, loving homes in North Carolina with a special focus on placing older children in the foster care system into caring homes. However, we are much more than just a placement agency. We provide therapy and support for children who have suffered abuse and neglect. We train and support foster families. We provide counseling to birth mothers facing unplanned pregnancies. In addition, we have a wealth of post adoption services that help children transition from foster care and adoption to become a member of a family.
