Staff Nurse in Family Medicine office on Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island, only accessible by ferry or airplane. This office is the only health care available on the island.
Duties Included:
Part of the team to initiate, and develop EHR for documentation and billing. The software systems were MicroMD and Practice Management. This work was on going and evolved with software updates as well as to insure documentation captured data needed for Meaningful Use, Core Measures for CMS, and UDS reports.
Became the Clinical Manager/Quality Assurance, and was responsible for staff oversight, education, continued incorporation of software enhancements, and the measurement of health center quality via software generated reports.
Chart auditing was a large part of the Quality Assurance program which included auditing clinical documentation as well as documentation for billing.
Case Management for patients:
Organized referral appointments including following up with specialist to obtain patient's records for provider
Notified all patients of lab, and other test results
Full responsibility of in-house laboratory including,
Calibration, maintenance and use of laboratory machines to include:
CBC, CMP, LIPID, Hemocue, Urinalysis, PT/INR
Phlebotomy and processing of collected labs
In charge of all aspects of use of the North Carolina Immunization Registry including ordering appropriate immunizations, administration of immunizations, and documentation of all immunizations given into the registry
In charge of on-site dispensary including inventory and ordering stock medications and administration of medication given in health center.
Worked with provider to stabilize patients for transfer off of island, including IV start, administration of IV medication, cardiac monitoring.
