Eagle's Nest Foundation's mission is experiential education for young people promoting the natural world and the betterment of human character. This mission is carried out within Eagle's Nest's three programs. The Outdoor Academy is an academic semester school for tenth grade students. Eagle's Nest Camp is a co-ed residential summer camp. Hante Adventures provides programs for teens in both the wilderness and cultural exchange settings. In 1912, the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women founded the Pi Beta Phi Settlement School in Gatlinburg, TN as a service project to commemorate its 50th anniversary. Today, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts is a nationally renowned center of contemporary arts and crafts education. Workshops are offered for one and two weeks in the spring and summer, and one-week and weekends in the fall. Areas of study include: ceramics, fibers, metals/jewelry, painting, drawing, photography, warm glass, woodturning, woodworking, sculpture, and book and paper arts. The public is welcome year-round to visit the school’s five galleries, resource center and book and supply store. Artist residencies, assistantships, work-study, scholarships, community outreach, conferences and music programs contribute to Arrowmont’s mission of “enriching lives through art.” Arrowmont’s historic 14 acre campus is a hidden treasure in the heart of downtown Gatlinburg. The mission of Muddy Sneakers is to awaken in children a deeply felt connection with the natural world -- one that inspires curiosity, stimulates learning and brings new life to classroom performance. Muddy Sneakers partners with public schools to take 5th-grade students to natural areas near their schools, to work in small groups in the outdoors with trained naturalist educators to teach their science curriculum and help students connect to nature.
