Eagle's Nest Foundation's mission is experiential education for young people promoting the natural world and the betterment of human character. This mission is carried out within Eagle's Nest's three programs. The Outdoor Academy is an academic semester school for tenth grade students. Eagle's Nest Camp is a co-ed residential summer camp. Hante Adventures provides programs for teens in both the wilderness and cultural exchange settings. The Eagle's Nest Foundation's 180 acre campus is located in Pisgah Forest, NC with a satellite office in Winston-Salem, NC. Eagle's Nest was founded in 1927 and was chartered as a 501c3 educational non profit organization in 1950. The Franklin School of Innovation (FSI), a 6th through 12th grade school, is dedicated to preparing the next generation of leaders, capable of solving problems and participating effectively and ethically as local and global citizens. FSI will be an Expeditionary Learning (EL) school. EL is a proven instructional model, based on research from the Harvard School of Education and the Outward Bound program. By partnering with Expeditionary Learning (EL), The Franklin School joins a network of over 150 schools, 4,000 teachers, and 45,000 students from all across the United States. The Franklin School of Innovation opened in August, 2014 and is located in the Asheville/Buncumbe County NC area. Currently we have approximate 480 students grades 5 - 12. We promote clean fuels and vehicles, oppose high-risk nuclear and coal-fired power plant expansion, and encourage the retirement of old, dirty inefficient coal-fired power plants in our region. For over 30 years, SACE has worked as a strong defender of the environment, challenging the status quo and working to minimize the impact of the energy sector on our region’s communities, natural resources, and economies.
