RCIL is a civil rights organization offering a wide range of independent living and advocacy services for and — most importantly — with people with disabilities. The basic human right of participating in society as a self-determining individual must extend to all citizens. To support these goals, RCIL helps individuals of all ages and types of disability obtain the community supports and services they need to live independently. Incorporated in 1968, PEACE, Inc. is a non-profit community-based organization with the mission of helping people in the community realize their potential for becoming self-sufficient. PEACE, Inc. believes in the strength of the human spirit and is dedicated to changing lives by teaching people how to help themselves and support those around them. To this end, PEACE, Inc. provides a continuum of services for the entire family from infants to the elderly. The majority of individuals we serve have incomes placing them at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines. PEACE, Inc. is Onondaga County’s federally designated Community Action Agency. JM Murray is a diverse two-pronged service organization. The Services Division provides compassionate support services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The Business Services Division offers contracted business services to various public and private organizations. The two sides of the organization merge to offer people with disabilities the opportunity to obtain legitimate employment in a real world work environment while also teaching them valuable skills, improving their self-esteem, and enriching their lives.

In 1929, a group of concerned and dedicated citizens in Utica, N.Y. recognized a need in the community and rose to a noble challenge: to help people who were blind and visually impaired. Aspiring to a greater good, they founded the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI). Their mission then was to assist people who are blind or visually impaired to achieve their highest levels of independence. It remains so today. CABVI continues to operate as a not-for-profit agency that serves people who are blind or visually impaired, from newborns to the elderly, generally free of charge. We offer comprehensive vision rehabilitation, employment and technology services personally tailored to meet an individual's needs. Service area in Central New York: Oneida, Madison, Herkimer, Lewis, Jefferson, Fulton, Montgomery, and northern Otsego counties.

Since 1887, the Rescue Mission has put love into action through shelter, food, clothing, and hope. Headquartered in Syracuse, NY, we are a 100% local and independent nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger and homelessness. We provide programming in Syracuse, Auburn, and Binghamton, NY. In Syracuse, the Rescue Mission is the only organization to serve three meals a day, 365 days a year to anyone in the community in need of a hot meal. We also operate a 183-bed emergency shelter for men and women. Permanent housing includes Crossroads, a 59-bed NYS licensed congregate care home, and 39 units of permanent supportive housing. All program participants are eligible to receive assistance and case management to transition to independent living, including: workforce development, spiritual care and counseling. Our Syracuse campus is also home to the Homeless Intervention Services (HIS) Team - the only full-time street outreach program - meeting with and assisting individuals experiencing street homelessness. Under development is an Emergency Youth Shelter, with an aim to open in late 2021. In Auburn, New York, we meet the needs of families and women experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We operate 28 units of permanent, supportive housing in Merriman Circle. Our staff is trained in trauma-informed care, and throughout the year, we provide support and enrichment activities for our children and families, including field trips, holiday parties, and summer camp. The Binghamton Rescue Mission provides a residence for men who have experienced homelessness or are referred by local agencies. Whitney Place houses a 21-bed dormitory on the first floor, along with 11 single-occupancy rooms with a shared kitchen on the upper level. Additionally, we provide supportive, permanent, affordable housing in a nearby single family home. Looking ahead, the Binghamton Rescue Mission is currently working to renovate a second property on Whitney Avenue to house formerly homeless women.
