Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support the Union and the policies of President Abraham Lincoln, The Union League of Philadelphia laid the philosophical foundation of other Union Leagues across a nation torn by civil war. The League has hosted U.S. presidents, heads of state, industrialists, entertainers and dignitaries from around the globe and has proudly supported the American military in each conflict since the Civil War. The Union League continues to be driven by its founding motto, Amor Patriae Ducit or Love of Country Leads. Today, the Union League is home to over 4,000 men and women who contribute to club life and keep alive the League’s traditions. As they did in 1862, today’s members represent the Philadelphia region’s leaders in business, education, technology, healthcare, law, government, religion, art and culture. The Union League Legacy Foundation is the new, single, unified nonprofit charity of the Union League. It is dedicated to the same values of freedom and free enterprise upon which the League was founded. Through historic preservation, education and scholarship, the Legacy Foundation promotes these values and ideals, inspiring more educated, engaged and responsible citizens. The League House occupies an entire city block in the center of Philadelphia’s commercial and cultural district. The building is representative of the classic French Renaissance style, with a brick and brownstone façade and dramatic twin circular staircases that lead to the main entrance on Broad Street. Built in 1865, the building was added to the National Historic Register in 1979. Ever-expanding, the League offers a plethora of amenities including five companion amenities: The Bungalow, The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale, The Union League Guard House, Union League National Golf Club and Union League Liberty Hill.

Ace Hotel Ace Hotel is a collection of individuals — multiple and inclusive — seeking to embrace the cities we live in by building spaces for collective gathering. Whether thoughtfully reinterpreting historic buildings or imagining radical new structures, our aim is always to make something energized, human and soulful. Our hotels are inspired by an affinity for the soulful and fueled by our love for the hyperlocal. A study in contrasts, Ace Hotel marries the pragmatic with the romantic, the private with the collective, the old world with the future. We are guided by empathy and compassion, and believe that the best things in life take conviction, guts and community. The way we do anything is the way we do everything. Atelier Ace Atelier Ace is Ace Hotel’s in-house creative, marketing, events, interior, architecture and graphic design team. We’re a curious hybrid — romantics with an unswerving business savvy, easy-going yet driven, casual but elegant. We architect event spaces, rooms, nightly magic, branded campaigns, curios and keepsakes and see the hotel as a potential for real, fluid community. With everything we do, we try to collaborate with and celebrate people whose work inspires us. We like the stories that come with things and think that wherever you are, you should feel like you’re there.

New York, New York
100-499 employees
Founded in 1863 by a group of concerned citizens to help preserve the Union, the Union League Club of New York has built, over ensuing years, a record of distinguished service to our country. Members of the Union League Club were instrumental in establishing The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1870 as well as the Sanitary Commission, a predecessor organization to the American Red Cross. It helped erect the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor and the Lincoln Monument in Union Square. Its members were instrumental in bringing down the “Boss” Tweed ring and in raising funds to outfit American soldiers in several conflicts. Many prominent civic, state and national leaders have enjoyed the fellowship of the ULC. Theodore Roosevelt managed his early political career from the Club’s chambers. J. Pierpont Morgan was a regular, along with John Jay, William Cullen Bryant, Chester A. Arthur, and Thomas Nast. Fifteen Presidents, seven Senators, many Congressmen, diplomats, cabinet members, and scores of chief executive officers of major corporations have been members of the Club during the past hundred and forty years and have participated in its programs.
