Project Harmony Child Protection Center is a community-based organization providing child-friendly, centralized and integrated child abuse assessment and investigation for children throughout eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Project Harmony works with state human services and local law enforcement agencies to protect the child and prosecute the offender. This past year, 8,064 children sought services at Project Harmony. Since the opening of Project Harmony in 1996 more than 64,000 children have received vital services in prevention and child abuse assessment, investigation and treatment referral. Prosecution rates have increased and abused children and their families are able to get professional help in the process of healing. The Project Harmony Training Institute was established in 2007 and since that time more than 30,000 students, citizens and professionals have been taught the best methods to assess and respond to children and their families who have been impacted by abuse and neglect. Project Harmony and its partner agencies work together to serve families throughout the communities of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa. This collaborative effort provides effective, immediate and sensitive support to child victims and their non-offending family members, improved communication and case resolution.

We serve adolescents and young adults, 12 to 25+ years of age residing in the northeast and southeast sectors of Douglas County in Omaha, Nebraska that are in gangs or are at-risk for gangs, violence and other activities that negatively impact their opportunity for success. YouTurn creates opportunities for youth to “break the cycle” of violence by: • Helping adolescents and young adults, involved in gangs and those at-risk for gang involvement, seek positive alternatives to gangs and violence; and • Reducing the costly impact of gangs and violence in our neighborhoods and schools. OUR PHILOSOPHY YouTurn believes that the prevalence of gangs and violence is a key indicator of the health and well-being of our community. To deter the increase of gangs and violence, YouTurn supports at-risk adolescents and young adults by using evidence-based strategies designed to create pathways for healing, success and achievement among at-risk adolescents and young adults. Our youth are resilient, and with our support, they can chart a new course of personal achievement and success. OUR APPROACH YouTurn “treats” gangs and violence, like a health epidemic. Our strategies include: • Detecting and intervening with gang violence where it occurs; • Identifying and treating those most at risk; and • Changing social norms by implementing innovative approaches YouTurn uses evidence-based strategies and programs, designed specifically for adolescents and young adults involved in gangs and at-risk for involvement. Our Street and School Outreach Staff maintain a visible presence in neighborhoods and schools most impacted by gangs and violence. Through strong, effective collaborations, YouTurn provides adolescents and young adults with opportunities to “turn their lives around”.
