MALCO PRODUCTS, SBC

Annandale, Minnesota

Malco Tools started in 1950 when a young steel supply salesman, Mark W. Keymer, decided to manufacture and market a pipe crimper he had invented to install the “new” sheet metal ductwork used with forced-air heating systems. More tools soon followed, including the first hand seamer to employ compound leverage, a time-saving hand notcher that made a V-shaped cut in one motion, and a hand-operated snap lock punch to complete the basic sheet metal toolset. Metal duct fabrication could now be done easily at the job site, and contractor-installers received the tools well. Mark Keymer’s manufacturing operations had to move from a garage to the more spacious basement of his Minneapolis home. Mr. Keymer relates that the Malco name originated from combining his first name and the first name of an early associate named Al: Malco for “Mark and Al’s Company” (it was Al’s garage). The fledgling tool company’s humble move upward, so to speak, from a garage to a basement, was the first of many moves and plant expansions. Corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities are located in Annandale, MN. Over 70 years later, Malco's legacy of innovative products lives on. Hundreds of other specialty tools have since joined the early product line of crimpers, seamers, notchers, and punches. Malco is still known for regularly introducing exciting new hand tool designs and modifications for the markets it serves.

In 1954, Ambrose Ramler founded Ramler Trucking, Inc., in Albany, MN. He left his job as a mechanic and bought a single axle straight job Ford. In the early years, Ambrose provided transportation of farm animals from local farmers to the South St. Paul stockyards. On his return trip, he would back haul feed products, hardware supplies, building products and liquor to the area merchants. In 1975, Jack and Doris Ramler entered the business. In 1982, Greg and Sue Ramler entered the business. Ambrose retired and drove part time for Jack and Greg. In 1999, a spin-off company was established which we named Ramler Truck and Trailer Repair Inc. We operate out of a 27,000 square foot building with 22 service bays. In 2008, we added a robotic aluminum wheel polishing machine. The machine is manufactured by Vehicle Inspection Serve or VIS. This machine can take an old oxidized and pitted wheel and give it a mirror-like shine. We then purchased another machine built by VIS that you drive a truck onto one axle at a time. We call it the 'shaker machine' because it moves an axle back and forth and then side to side while you can visually check for any loose components ending in a computer analysis print out. This has greatly reduced labor costs by cutting the time it takes to trouble shoot a problem. In 2012, we purchased two adjoining lots with another 5000 sq. ft. building for expansion reasons. We employ 15 full-time mechanics, two parts salespersons as well as 3 part-time employees. Our mechanics can perform anything from engine overhauls, welding steel or aluminum, refrigerated trailer repairs, tire repairs and heavy-duty alignment. Ramler Trucking Inc. has now grown to: 73 tractors, including 33 company 40 Independent Drivers 10 Contractors pulling our trailers 124 refrigerated trailers 48 regular flatbeds 6 expandable flatbeds that stretch out to 80 feet 14 tanker trailers Ramler Trucking Inc. employs 13 office personnel and 24 drivers
