Great Lakes Bay Health Centers (formerly Health Delivery, Inc.) began as a very small migrant health clinic in 1969, when the Saginaw County Health Department received a $75,000 grant to provide health care to farm workers. Today, Great Lakes Bay Health Centers makes up the second largest of Michigan Health Center organizations. Over 50,000 patients a year receive a wide array of services such as such as medical, dental and behavioral health care in one of our 33 locations throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region. Compass Health was first established as Parkland Lutheran Children’s Home in 1901, caring for orphaned children in Western Washington. In 1953, we hired our first psychiatrist and began providing mental health care for the children who lived at our home. In 1963, Congress passed the Community Mental Health Act, creating community-based service models and allowing for the deinstitutionalization of the mentally ill.
