As a leader in the field of training and development for persons with disabilities, Lakestate Industries is dedicated to helping people recognize and maximize their abilities, overcome barriers, and support them in reaching their highest level of employment and community inclusion. What kinds of services does LSI provide? ORGANIZATIONAL EMPLOYMENT: Lakestate Industries provides vocational career exploration in-house based on an individual's interests, motivation and abilities. A variety of different work experiences are offered including, but not limited to, packaging, sorting recyclables at the Delta Wide Recycling Center, confidential shredding, assembly, janitorial, pallet stock, survey stakes, manufacturing and handcrafting specialty products. Visit www.lakestateindustries.org/collections to shop our products. STUDENT SERVICES PROGRAM: Students can be referred for a Career Scope Assessment. After answering a batter of questions, we are able to measure the students interests and aptitude for employment. They undergo a work evaluation that assists teachers and students in assessing the student employment strengths and identifies areas in need of improvements. They can join Career Club, a high school classroom setting designed to assist students by preparing them for employment. Students will learn how to obtain employment, gain soft skills knowledge, and how they affect employment. In addition, career exploration is a segment of our student services that affords the student an opportunity to explore their various careers via job shadowing community work experiences. COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES: As part of our work Training and job placement we have developed many community based training sites. Work training helps develop employable work skills, as an individual is exposed to more work opportunities, they will also develop more work skills to bring with them to community employment. When able, we design our work opportunities in the community so employees can experience working along side individuals without barriers to employment. Employees may be on a mobile crew that spends small amounts of time at the employment location doing necessary tasks such as janitorial work or on an enclave that spends extended periods of time at a location. Both mobile crews and enclaves are provided supervisory support from LSI job coaches. COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM: Our employment specialists, staffed at both our Escanaba and Marquette locations, look at an individual's strengths, skills and abilities, and needs in order to match these with a community employment opportunity which most closely fits an individuals desired employment outcome. Provides Individuals an opportunity to achieve economic independence and contribute productively to their community by obtaining and retaining employment. Is available on site to those employees who are starting a new job, experiencing difficulties on the job, or have had a recent change in their job. Both the employer and employee benefit from job coaching. The employer gains a valuable, dependable employee and realizes a savings in training costs. The employee receives the support necessary to ensure the success in their new work environment.
