Great Lakes Energy goes beyond the expected to empower our members' lives. Built and led by the communities we serve, we have a mind for innovation and a heart for service. We are a trusted partner, connecting our members to the resources they depend on. We strive to go beyond expectations to connect our members to a greater world. As the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the largest member-owned power company in Michigan, we have succeeded because we’re a well-run business that is committed to providing energy solutions to more than 126,000 member-consumers in 26 counties in western and northern Michigan, from Kalamazoo to the Mackinac Straits. Since 1937 our success has been built around the mutual trust we share with our member-consumers. That’s because our members are also the owners of our electric cooperative. Great Lakes Energy is governed by a Board of Directors that is elected by our member-owners. We were formed more than 80 years ago for the sole purpose of providing service and value to our member-owners. Today, we continue looking out for you, with eight office locations and more than 290 employees to serve the needs of our members. As a member-owned cooperative, Great Lakes Energy allocates and eventually returns profits to our members in the form of capital credit refunds. We have refunded capital credits every year since 2003, totaling over $87.5 million. We will continue to do so as financial conditions allow. Thunder Bay Community Health Service, Inc. commits its resources to building healthier communities. Thunder Bay Community Health Service, Inc., (TBCHS) is a non–profit, 501 (c) (3) independent corporation governed by a volunteer board of directors representing the communities we serve. TBCHS was founded in 1980 by a group of concerned citizens who identified the need for greater access to primary care services in the region. In July 1982, TBCHS became operational as a National Health Service Corporation solo practice, and in October 1983 was awarded Section 330 federal funding operating under the guidelines of a Community Health Center. Today this designation is referred to as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) supported by the Health Resources and Service Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This special status makes us eligible for a variety of programs, allowing us to offer a much broader scope of service than would otherwise be possible in a rural area. Through the years, we have grown to serve the populations of Montmorency, Alpena, Cheboygan, Otsego, Oscoda, and Presque Isle Counties. We provide health care for all ages, regardless of insurance status where everyone is welcome!
