MICHIGAN SUGAR COMPANY
Bay City, Michigan
500+ employees
Michigan Sugar Company was founded in 1906 when six smaller sugar companies merged their operations. In 2002, Michigan Sugar Company became a grower-owned cooperative and in 2004, we merged with Monitor Sugar Company to form the company that exists today. Michigan Sugar Company is headquartered in Bay City and we have sugarbeet processing facilities in Bay City, Caro, Croswell and Sebewaing, Michigan. Our nearly 900 grower-owners plant and harvest up to 160,000 acres of sugarbeets each year in 20 Michigan counties, as well as Ontario, Canada. Those beets are sliced at our factories and turned into about 1.3 billion pounds of sugar annually. Our sugar is sold to industrial, commercial and retail customers under the Pioneer and Big Chief brands. We also package sugar for more than 20 private labels, including for customers like Walmart, Meijer and Kroger. Michigan Sugar Company has 930 year-round employees and an additional 1,100 seasonal workers. We are the No. 1 employer in Huron County, the No. 2 employer in Bay and Sanilac counties and the No. 3 employer in Tuscola County. Our annual payroll is about $65 million and our annual local economic impact is about $500 million. Michigan Sugar Company is the third largest of nine sugarbeet processing companies in the United States and Michigan is one of 10 states where sugarbeets are grown in the country.

CHELSEA MILLING COMPANY
CHELSEA MILLING COMPANY
Chelsea, Michigan
201-500 employees
Chelsea Milling Company has been a family-owned business since it was established as a traditional flour mill in 1901, by our founder Harmon S. Holmes. At the start of the Great Depression Harmon's daughter-in-law, Mabel White Holmes considered how she and her family's local milling business might help those whose livelihood had been affected. In 1930, with the support of her husband Howard Samuel Holmes, Mabel's "JIFFY" brand baking mix became the first prepared baking mix sold to the public. By keeping their mixes affordable, the Holmes' new venture was able to help many families who were recovering from the effects of the Great Depression. Working alongside generations of valued employees, each successive member of the Holmes family has been able to bring positive change to the family business: introducing exciting new products, ground-breaking technological advancements, and new areas of expansion and growth. Today, "JIFFY" is the market share leader in retail prepared muffin mixes, yet our goal remains the same; to feed America, especially during difficult economic times. In 2007, we entered the foodservice segment with a range of new baking mix product formulations sold under our CMC brand, targeting K-12, healthcare, senior living, and corrections. The CMC brand has quickly become a key player in the correctional segment, as well as having a strong presence across the board. With the recent completion of our new, state-of-the-art, fully-contained foodservice production facility; in 2019 we launched our new "JIFFY" brand foodservice products, which are specifically formulated for independent, regional and national bakeries, as well as the restaurant and hospitality industries. Ninety years after our debut in 1930, our mission remains the same. At "JIFFY" our mission is to provide our consumers with the best possible value. We define Value as being the highest quality ingredients and the best price.
