The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) is a nonprofit organization that operates the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak, Mich. and the Belle Isle Nature Center, located in Detroit. Accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, DZS employs approximately 350 full and part-time employees and hosts more than 500 volunteers throughout the year. The 125-acre Detroit Zoo is a natural habitat for more than 2,000 animals. Major exhibits include the National Amphibian Conservation Center, Polk Penguin Conservation Center, Deveraux Tiger Forest, Great Apes of Harambee and Arctic Ring of Life, voted the number-two zoo exhibit in the U.S. by the Intrepid Traveler’s guide to “America’s Best Zoos”. The Belle Isle Nature Center, nestled on 6 acres of Michigan's forested wetland on the northeastern tip of Belle Isle State Park, offers guests unique educational, environmental and natural experiences that help connect them with urban nature. An American Tresaure, where exquisite architecture, breathtaking lakefront grounds and a collection of fine & decorative arts tell the story of one of America's most important industrial families... The Fords were cultural, social and economic leaders in an era of great optimism, as well as a turbulent time of economic depression and world war. They were nationally prominent and they owned more than one house, but Southeast Michigan was their home. Here they built their final residence along the shores of Lake St. Clair, at a place known locally as Gaukler Pointe. Their impressive yet unpretentious home is where they raised and nurtured their four children - Henry II, Benson, Josephine and William - in a safe and loving environment. It reflects their love of family as well as their mutual passion for art and quality design. The house was designed by Albert Kahn to resemble a cluster of Cotswold village cottages, complete with stone roofs, vine-covered walls and lead-paned windows. Strolling through the thoughtfully decorated halls, visitors come face-to-face with a stunningly diverse collection of art, antiques and furniture that reveal the Fords' progressive and educated tastes in art and design. The Ford House grounds are a work of art in their own right. Designed by famed landscape architect Jens Jensen, the meadow, rockwork and water components appear to be almost completely natural but were meticulously planned. The estate provided a place for the Fords to relax, raise children and pursue personal interests, shielded from the demands of their public lives. As steadfast supporters of the community, arts and other philanthropic endeavors, the Fords generously donated to education and medical research while contributing immeasurably to the growth of Detroit's cultural resources.

The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum (AAHOM) opened in 1982 in an historic firehouse in downtown Ann Arbor and quickly became the cornerstone of informal science education in the community. This was achieved by working with scientists, artists, designers, engineers, and innovators who transferred their extraordinary talents and knowledge into the creation of simple, effective science exhibits that can be understood by children, their families, and audiences of all ages. Following several expansions, AAHOM now occupies 40,000 square feet, with 20,000 devoted to exhibit space for 250+ interactive exhibits designed to promote science discovery and literacy. Over 6 million visitors have visited AAHOM since it first opened its doors, making it one of the most popular science centers in the State of Michigan. The mission of the AAHOM is to create moments of discovery that inspire curiosity, exploration, and respect for STEM, and the natural world . Our vision is a world where curiosity today leads to more purposeful lives tomorrow. Thanks to a steadfast belief in the power of STEaM when placed in the hands of pre-K through 8th Graders, we enjoy one of the highest annual attendance rates at a science center in Michigan: reaching nearly 400,000 each year. AAHOM education programs align with State of Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Our exhibits have been displayed in libraries, community centers and shopping malls throughout the state. AAHOM’s regional and national reputation was built on its visionary planning and implementation of interactive STEaM-based exhibits; groundbreaking educational programs delivered to 47 counties throughout the state, 47 states across the country, and numerous countries around the world; and an exceptional ability to establish and maintain strong collaborative bonds with public and private organizations from a variety of disciplines.

It is the mission of The Zekelman Holocaust Center to remember those who perished and survived the Holocaust and, in a world increasingly faced with sectarian strife and intolerance, to set forth the lessons of the Holocaust as a model for teaching ethical conduct and responsible decision-making.
