Located in Bar Harbor, Maine, our independent, nonprofit hospital offers dedicated service to the residents of Mount Desert Island, the outer islands of Swans, Frenchboro, Cranberry and Islesford, and satellite communities in Hancock and Washington counties. These two counties are Maine’s 3rd and 5th most rural, according to the 2010 federal census. MDIH’s mission is to provide compassionate care and strengthen the health of our community.

Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln, Maine has been serving the Lincoln Lakes Region of northern Penobscot County since 1973 when federal legislation passed to establish Hospital Administrative District #1 for the 15-town community, ensuring the availability of future emergency medical care. Over forty years later, PVH continues to serve the needs of our community, now as a non-profit Critical Access Hospital with 25 beds. The 10-member board of directors is made up of men and women who live, work, and receive healthcare in our region. PVH employs approximately 200 people in gainful employment and is estimated to have an annual economic output of just under $50 million, primarily reinvested back into the local economy. Services provided include: • acute care, • skilled care, • emergency care, • imaging services, • laboratory services, • primary care, • surgical services, • rehabilitation and speech therapy, • and specialty care provided through partnerships with local healthcare facilities. About St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation: St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation works with the community to secure donations that help our Hospital to purchase life-saving equipment, to fund healthcare research and facility renewal, and to comfort and care for the patients we’ve been honoured to serve since 1890.
