Founded in 1965, Community Concepts is a Community Action Agency and a 501c(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen individuals, families and communities in Western Maine by providing diverse programs, engaging in strategic partnerships, and through advocacy that addresses the barriers to promote economic opportunities for all. We meet our mission by helping children prepare for the future, building family stability and growth, providing home ownership and other housing opportunities, and stimulating economic and community development. Community Concepts delivers services in an efficient and effective manner through an all-volunteer local Board of Directors, 300 committed volunteers, and more than 200 staff, stewarding more than $24 million into the local community each year.

As the largest hunger relief organization in Maine, Good Shepherd Food Bank provides for Mainers facing hunger by distributing nutritious food to 400 partner agencies across the state, including food pantries, meal sites, and youth programs. Together with its network, the Food Bank leads a statewide effort to combat the root causes of hunger by engaging in advocacy, nutrition education, and strategic partnerships. Program Overview: Promise Early Education Center is the foremost early learning program in Central Maine that is dedicated to educating the whole child and preparing that child for success in school and opportunity beyond. Our Agency provides a safe, engaging, and empowering place for children to learn and grow; offers a results driven educational curriculum taught be degreed teachers; and supports the engagement of parents and caregivers in their child’s learning through partnership, communication and a commitment to the parent as primary educator.

For 40 years, Camp Sunshine has provided hope, joy and community through unique experiences for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. At our pristine campus on Sebago Lake in Maine, more than 60,000 children, siblings, parents, and caregivers from all 50 states and 27 countries have come together for fun-filled, year-round sessions with families just like theirs. Located in the beautiful White Mountains region of Maine, Summit Achievement is a licensed residential treatment center, serving adolescent boys and girls, ages 13 to 20, from around the world. Our innovative, outcome-focused program combines the best features of a wilderness therapy program with the best features of a special-needs boarding school.  As an intentionally small, owner-operated program, we are guided by positive reinforcement and the power of choice. Through the process of engaging client-centered therapy with family inclusion, along with classroom academics and exciting wilderness expeditions, students experience the therapeutic benefit of outdoor adventure-based activities while learning to manage the demands of a more traditional environment. 

Initial responsibilities as an Accounting Specialist included processing all facets of accounts payable, grants, and other accounting functions of the organization. In addition to these core functions, able to create spreadsheets and develop measurements to drive processing efficiency as well as expand the existing reporting. Subsequent to a transition by the existing head of the Finance and Accounting functions of the organization, accepted the position of Finance Manager. As the Finance Manager, responsible for overall maintenance of financial accounting systems to manage cash, AP, AR, internal financial reporting, grant & regulatory reporting and responsible for the annual audit process. On a monthly basis, created monthly financial statements for the Board of Directors. In addition, participated in every board meeting along-side with the Executive Director. Selected Accomplishments: 1. Identify, create, and enact different methods/systems within the accounting functions of the organization throughout my time which allowed for the consolidation of my original position while allocating responsibilities in a way to increase internal controls. 2. Created a comprehensive spreadsheet which was able to identify, track and provide relevant measurements as it related to our accounts receivable. This included pulling information from our accounting system as well as MaineCare on a monthly basis. 3. Multiple financial and data analytic projects to directly assist the Board with a variety of potential strategies.
