The mission of the Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center (SWLAHEC) is to improve health status through access to information, education and health services.

Unitech Training Academy was granted a license by the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education on April 24, 1997, and became a fully operational proprietary school. Beginning with one program, the Certified Nursing Assistant program, the school now offers other programs to meet the needs and demands of the local communities in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Unitech Training Academy is licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Regents, the Commission on Proprietary Schools, the College Registration in Mississippi, and the Private School Licensure Division of the Alabama Community College System. Unitech Training Academy has been accredited since 2003 by the Council on Occupational Education.

Founded startup school; wrote and implemented curriculum; fundraising; hiring and management.

• Worked in a self-contained and departmentalized academic environment for grades 5-9. • Complied with teachers academic plans and guided students through daily learning objectives. • Supervised children in recess activity and in hallways between classes. • Filled in for class teachers and supervised children whenever the need arose. • Planned and implemented fun and engaging activities for children to participate in during allotted hours.

- Educating high school students on life skills, including but not limited to interpersonal, communication, and relationship skills, decision-making, STI/STD awareness, pregnancy prevention and sexual education utilizing the Real Essentials curriculum.- Traveling throughout the service area as required to teach educational programming and attend department meetings.- Researching current events in sex and relationship education, including state and national laws related to sexuality and sex education.- Reviewing and updating sexual health curriculum to reflect current events and trends.- Assisting with grant writing and IRB application process.- Positively representing the agency at community meetings and events.- Performing supportive tasks as needed.

The Safety Council of Southwest Louisiana has been serving the Southwest Louisiana area since 1955. Originally, the Council was a chapter of the National Safety Council in 1999. Today we are charter members of the American Association of Safety Councils (AASC) and the Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils (ARSC). These organizations continue to grow each year with the simple objective of providing service and training to our respective communities to achieve accident prevention in the home, at work and at play. Over the years, our community service projects have grown and we added a broad assortment of programs to support our local area industrial growth. In 1992, at the request of local industry, the council began providing orientation and training for local area contractor employees with the prime objective of containing costs and providing quality programs. This led to formation of the Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils. ARSC has since grown to include over 25 councils across the United States and continues to expand the training base, and training programs to serve our industry with millions of dollars of savings each year. In 2006, the council joined with two other Gulf Coast councils to form Safety Council Solutions, which provides a tabletop audit of contractor safety programs. This process replaces a similar process previously offered by NCMS who decided to focus on their core business. In January of 2007 the Safety Council began administering a reciprocal Background Screening Program as a service to local Industry. Moving forward, whenever a need is identified, the Council will develop and provide quality, cost effective seminars, training and consulting to local business and the community.
