James Carmichael was the first to farm Maplehurst in 1909 with 80 acres north of Rochelle on Route 64. Maplehurst (which was named for the many maple trees which lined the property at one time) has seen unprecedented changes in agriculture, technology, politics, and much else. The Maple Hurst Stock Farm evolved from a small grain and livestock farm into a large grain, fertilizer, and trucking facility. As with all other things, the caliber of the people who have owned, staffed, and operated Maplehurst over the years have made all of the difference in ensuring its current success.
