MRI provides services to promote the growth, independence, and self-worth of children and adults with disabilities. MRI was formed through the consolidation of Progress Resource Center and Macon County Rehabilitation Facilities in 1988 to provide comprehensive habilitative and rehabilitative training programs and support services to individuals who have a developmental disability, mental illness or other disabling condition. In January 2015, Independence Pointe (formerly an Easter Seals affiliate) merged with MRI to provide to a system of coordinated services to fully support the diverse needs of the individuals and families living in Central Illinois. Every year MRI helps people attain employment in the community, effect system change through self-advocacy, move to a more independent living arrangements, volunteer to help other community services, and achieve other personal goals that build confidence and self-esteem. MRI has continued to build community relationships and contribute to the community’s growth. MRI has expanded services by creating job opportunities at Jan-Pro Janitorial and Lawn Care, License Plates and other manufacturing contracts. These activities have served to educate the public about what MRI does, but more importantly, these programs demonstrate the capabilities and potential of the people who participate in the training programs.
