In the 1920's Herlihy Mid-Continent Company made its mark on regional history when it built 70% of the original upper and lower Wacker Drives, then a visionary project that required long hours of skilled work using progressive construction methods and now a landmark of Chicago. Needing more space for expansion and equipment storage, the Company moved from Downtown Chicago to the southwestern suburbs where a new facility was built. This provided additional office space as well as a maintenance shop and a large yard for equipment and material storage.
