The Center for Civic Education is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Los Angeles. The mission of the Center is to promote an enlightened and responsible citizenry committed to democratic principles and actively engaged in the practice of democracy in the United States and other countries. The Center’s programs are implemented with the assistance of a network of public- and private-sector organizations and educational leaders in every state and congressional district in the country and in more than eighty other countries, many of which are emerging democracies. The Center’s work has been the subject of numerous books, studies, and professional articles, including Professor Brian Schultz’s "Spectacular Things Happen Along the Way,"​ as well as two documentary films, including the award-winning feature The World We Want. The Center began as an interdisciplinary Committee on Civic Education formed at the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1964 to develop more effective curricular programs in elementary and secondary civic education. In 1969, the Center became affiliated with the State Bar of California. In 1981, the State Bar of California established the Center for Civic Education as an independent nonprofit organization. The Center's main programs are We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution, Project Citizen, and Foundations of Democracy. Independent research has found them to be the most effective programs in the field of civics and government.

Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, a 501(c)3 organization, was founded in 2009 with a mission to assist in the effort of meeting the needs of every hungry and homeless man, woman, and child in the San Fernando Valley. Through strategic services and partnerships, we empower our clients with the hope, faith, knowledge, resources, and skills to lead a life of wholeness and self-sufficiency. Hope of the Valley is the only full service rescue mission headquartered in the San Fernando Valley and is uniquely positioned to meet the immediate needs of the homeless and working poor populations of the San Fernando Valley. Initially begun as a hunger relief outreach program serving two hot meals a week, Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission is now a full service agency that • serves 1,500 meals each week to the San Fernando Valley’s increasing homeless and hungry population, • distributes more than 30,000 clothing items and 9,000 hygiene packets to homeless individuals annually, • provides shower rooms at our main campus so that homeless men and women can maintain their personal hygiene in addition to receiving a hot meal, • provides ongoing case management and life skill classes to the homeless, • established the House of Hope—a recovery home for men, • started the Hope of the Valley Thrift Store and employs 11 former homeless workers who are learning business skills, • launched Genesis House—a 30-bed emergency shelter for homeless families headed by single mothers, and • opened the Bridge, a transitional living program for men working their way out of homelessness. Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission believes that the first step to eliminating poverty is to meet populations that are most in need at their point of need. The Santa Barbara Rescue Mission has served the county and city of Santa Barbara for over 50 years, providing emergency services and long-term recovery for the homeless and addicted. We are the only emergency shelter that is open 365 nights of the year from Santa Maria to Ventura. In 2016, we provided 143,051 meals and 51,627 safe nights of shelter for individuals with no place else to turn. Because substance abuse has a sizable impact on our community and is often a contributing factor to homelessness, we focus 85% of our resources on recovery efforts employing both outpatient and residential modalities. The Mission’s 12-month residential recovery program aims to bring individuals from decades of addiction, institutionalization, and homelessness back to sobriety, health and wholeness. Certification through the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs ensures that participants receive the highest standard of treatment in a non-medical facility. The recovery programs are operated in two separate gender-specific locations for 45 men and 24 women. In 2016, 44 people completed the recovery program, joining over 723 graduates since 1997. Our most significant accomplishment is the long-term change we see in our graduates. In contrast to national statistics that show only 21% of those who complete addiction recovery programs not returning to dependency within five years, more than 53% of our graduates maintain recovery over this same time period.

The Western Los Angeles County Council Boy Scouts of America supports individuals, families, and community organizations providing values-based recreational and educational programs and activities that develop young people of character. Leadership in today's businesses, industry, science, government, universities, professions, unions and armed services can be strongly traced to associations in Scouting. Scouting teaches citizenship and leadership qualities that make a difference. We serve 65% of Los Angeles County through six incredible districts stretching from LAX to Edwards Air Force Base, one of the most diverse population centers in the country. The youth who are its members live in farming towns, in suburban communities and in the congested neighborhoods of the city encompassing the extremes of the economic scale, from the poverty stricken to the wealthiest. We operate three renown and historic Camps: Camp Emerald Bay - on the waterfront of pristine Catalina Island, Camp Josepho – in Pacific Palisades but seemingly distant from the metropolis around it, and Camp Whitsett – among the pines of Sequoia National Forest. These three camps have collectively been in operation for the past 100 years. Among the camps we formerly operated are: Camp Wolverton, Jubilee Scout Ranch and Camp Slauson, Sea Base. The BSA’s goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to instill typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking. The Celiac Disease Foundation, established in 1990, is a leading global patient advocacy organization committed to accelerating diagnosis, treatments, and a cure for celiac disease. Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of the millions of individuals around the world affected by this genetic autoimmune disease through our strategic investments in research, advocacy, and education. Our iCureCeliac® patient registry and extensive patient recruitment services enable us to identify qualified patient candidates and speed their enrollment to advance critical disease research. When SAA was founded in 1983, there was no support network, no educational materials geared to spondylitis patients, not even a single pamphlet for people affected by spondylitis, a group of related rheumatic diseases that primarily affect the spine and other joints. Nearly 2.7 million Americans are living with the disease. SAA was the first and remains the largest resource in the U.S. for people seeking information on spondylitis. Our focus is on research, patient advocacy, education and support, as well as raising awareness about this group of diseases.
