The Greater Bakersfield Chamber is a member-driven and professionally staffed not-for-profit association of business people committed to improving the economic climate and quality of life in the greater Bakersfield area. The Chamber's strength lies in its membership. With a solid base of more than 1,100 members representing 70,000 employees, the Chamber is representative of all sizes and types of business. Corporate giants are represented, but over 85 percent of the Chamber's membership is made up of small businesses (classified as 10 employees or less). Chamber members are bankers and beauticians, communications consultants and caterers. Members have varied interests and concerns, and underlying all is the common desire to improve the local business environment and enhance the socio-economic and cultural well-being of our community. The Chamber is organized to focus attention and initiate private sector action on the major issues affecting the economic well-being and quality of life in the area. The Chamber is supported entirely by its membership and receives no government funding or contracts. The policies and programs of the Chamber are determined by its membership through the Board of Directors. They, in turn, select a paid full-time chief executive whose basic function is to organize and execute the Chamber's program of work. The chief executive assembles a professional staff to assist in supporting the membership.

The Santa Barbara Young Professionals are a group of young and talented business professionals interested in networking, building friendships, and serving our community through various civic activities. SBYPC has always attracted a professionally diverse, fun and dynamic group of men and women. The club strives to provide an environment that is conducive to enhancing social and professional contacts. We accomplish this through various regular events such as monthly business casual mixers usually held at restaurants and new spots throughout Santa Barbara, educational events where we have guest speakers from all professional backgrounds, various other special events, and to tie off each year, our annual Holiday Gala in December. Members are 21-45 years of age, but everyone is invited to attend our events.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of children and families and build resilient communities by leading local programs and partnerships that improve school readiness and academic achievement, financial empowerment, and crisis response and recovery. Since 1923, United Way has served the Santa Barbara County community through funding, capacity-building, volunteer development, and by creating and managing its own unique collaborative programs and initiatives.

The Santa Barbara Rescue Mission has served the county and city of Santa Barbara for over 50 years, providing emergency services and long-term recovery for the homeless and addicted. We are the only emergency shelter that is open 365 nights of the year from Santa Maria to Ventura. In 2016, we provided 143,051 meals and 51,627 safe nights of shelter for individuals with no place else to turn. Because substance abuse has a sizable impact on our community and is often a contributing factor to homelessness, we focus 85% of our resources on recovery efforts employing both outpatient and residential modalities. The Mission’s 12-month residential recovery program aims to bring individuals from decades of addiction, institutionalization, and homelessness back to sobriety, health and wholeness. Certification through the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs ensures that participants receive the highest standard of treatment in a non-medical facility. The recovery programs are operated in two separate gender-specific locations for 45 men and 24 women. In 2016, 44 people completed the recovery program, joining over 723 graduates since 1997. Our most significant accomplishment is the long-term change we see in our graduates. In contrast to national statistics that show only 21% of those who complete addiction recovery programs not returning to dependency within five years, more than 53% of our graduates maintain recovery over this same time period.
