Located in Bakersfield, the Jim Burke dealerships began in 1964 when Jim Burke acquired Haberfelde Ford after being employed there since 1948 in various management capacities. Haberfelde Ford, established in 1913, was then located downtown before being moved to the present 20 acre site on Oak Street in 1977. At that time the dealership name was changed to Jim Burke Ford, and Haberfelde Ford remained as the corporation name. Today, it is one of the biggest Ford dealerships in the nation. In August 1985 Jim Burke bought the Kitchen Boyd Lincoln Mercury dealership located downtown on Chester Avenue and moved the operation in January of 1989 to a new facility in the Bakersfield Automall. The Jim Burke Jaguar store was added to the Automall location in August of 2000 for luxury car buyers. In March of 2003, the Jim Burke Used Cars was added to the company's automotive line-up as a dedicated facility in the Bakersfield Automall, it was built to take care of the growing demands for quality used vehicles. As the market grew for Ford products, in the summer of 2004 the official expansion into the Automall with another Ford Store now marks two locations to buy or lease a Ford in Bakersfield. 2011 marked the year Ford Motor Company eliminated Mercury from the Lincoln Mercury brand, a move that allowed for stunning developments of Lincoln as a premier luxury vehicle. In early 2014 the Jaguar brand was discontinued to allow space for further expansion of the Ford and Lincoln luxury car business, but retaining the Jaguar authorized parts sales, and warranty service. In October of 1935, E.M. "Gene"​ Tharp started out with what was to become his lifetime interest and occupation with a used 1926 truck. By "horse trading"​ and long hours of hard work, his dream of a commercial hauling business of his own was realized. Gene enjoyed the commercial hauling business and conducted it for over twenty six years. He saw it grow from one used truck into a fleet of over twenty tractors and more than a hundred pieces of equipment. In 1961, Gene decided to do full time what he had done part time throughout his life - sell and trade. in 1962, Gene's son, Morris Tharp started with the dealership when he was 19 years old. in 1964, Gene acquired the International Franchise. Gene continued to serve as president of E.M. Tharp, Inc. until 1986. At this time, Morris Tharp acquired and is the current president and his son, Casey Tharp is the current vice president of E.M. Tharp, Inc.

Our story began in 1956 when Leonard Cormier and his sons Leonard Jr. and Romo purchased Motor Center properties from Lawrence Lake; thus the answer to how Three-Way came up with its name. Three-Way Chevrolet Co. served Bakers-field from the downtown Chester Avenue location until the steadily increasing sales forced the flourishing company to move “out in the country” to 3800 California Avenue in 1969.Three-Way Chevrolet continued to thrive and recorded increasing sales levels year after year. In a short period of time, Three-Way gained national recognition and was named a Charter Member of Chevrolet's Genuine Leaders. This prestigious award was presented to a small select group of dealers from a pool of over 4,200 Chevrolet dealers nationally. Fostering community ideals and providing each guest with exceptional service has been the goal at Three-Way for over 56 years. In order to expand our product offerings, Three-Way purchased the Cadillac dealership franchise in 2003. Record sales continued and Three-Way attained the Top Chevrolet and Top GM Retailer in the state of California for 6 consecutive years. In fact, Three-Way was recognized as the Top Chevrolet Retail Sales Leader in the United States during the months of June and July 2006. In August of 2006, Three-Way once again packed its bags and moved to a 70,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art dealership facility built on 15 acres located at 4501 Wible Rd.
