For 31 years, the Bay Area's Family Giving Tree has been delivering joy to those most in need. What started as a San Jose State MBA project to help in-need children has grown steadily into an established, widely respected, nonprofit organization. Since its start in 1990, Family Giving Tree has served over 2,000,000 children and adults throughout the greater Bay Area. We dream of inspiring the values of kindness, philanthropy, and volunteerism to impact our community. With the invaluable support of our donors, sponsors, volunteers and drive leaders, Family Giving Tree leads two major drives each year. The Holiday Wish Drive fulfills children’s exact holiday gift wishes, and Back-to-School Drive provides backpacks filled with school supplies to local K-12 children most in need. Despite the pandemic, 2021 saw the successful delivery of over 25,000 backpacks and 50,000 holiday gifts. In addition, over 1,000 volunteers worked with us in donated warehouse space to make it all happen.

DAC provides interdisciplinary legal representation for parents and children in child welfare cases in Santa Clara County.

Court Appointed Special Advocates - CASA of Santa Cruz County empowers volunteers to influence life-changing decisions for a child in foster care. CASA volunteer Advocates are everyday people, trained by CASA and then appointed by judges to advocate for the safety of children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. Advocates are fully supported by a staff supervisor and are part of a team that works in the best interests of the child. CASA volunteers devote 2-4 hours a week getting to know the child and gathering information from everyone involved in the child’s case. Advocates stay with each case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives. Haven is a catalyst for individual empowerment and societal change: advocating for those impacted by domestic and sexual abuse or human trafficking and working to end gender-based violence. Haven’s provides safety and support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking and promotes healthy alternatives to violent environments, while working to end the cycle of abuse through crisis intervention, education and advocacy. We serve all survivors regardless of age, race, ethnicity, immigration status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, or income level. Our comprehensive crisis intervention and prevention services include a 24-hour crisis line, 24/7 trauma response, emergency shelter, safety planning services, legal assistance and advocacy, peer counseling and support groups, and youth and community education programs.

Shine Together, formerly Teen Success, Inc., builds pathways to prosperity for two generations—young mothers and their children. We believe that education is the key factor in breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty faced by young families. Shine empowers young mothers to complete high school and persist through post-secondary education while nurturing their child’s positive development to ensure the success of the whole family. Shine creates economic advancement for multiple generations, by partnering with young mothers to further their education, build life and career skills, and nurture their children’s development. Shine has supported over 1,600 families since our founding in 2011. Every year, over 85% of our program participants graduate from high school, as compared to 38% of teen mothers nationally. Currently, 69% of the young women in our program are pursuing or have completed a post-secondary degree or certificate, which is 21x the national average college graduation rate for young moms! The children of the young mothers we work with are thriving as well, with close to 90% meeting their linguistic milestones which is setting them up to be kindergarten ready. San Jose Day Nursery is a high-quality hands-on learning Child Development Center located in the heart of downtown San Jose that accommodates the financial needs of all working families. Our Mission is to promote child excellence through outstanding early care and education, parent engagement, and community partnerships.

We are Family Supportive Housing, a non-profit organization that aims to provide shelter and supportive services to homeless families in Santa Clara County, to empower them to move from homelessness to self-sufficiency in our community. Family Supportive Housing is the only shelter in Santa Clara County that exclusively services families – intact families and single parents with children.

To join with other service providers in a community-wide effort to end and prevent homelessness in Santa Cruz County. Toward this end, Families In Transition works in partnership with families who are homeless with housing opportunities and by providing participants with referrals to employment, training, and educational resources to assist them in becoming both self-reliant and independent members of the community.

Sunday Friends is an innovative San Jose-based nonprofit with a 25-year track record of empowering very low income families to break the generational cycle of poverty by fostering positive development in children while educating and guiding parents to support their children's life success. Our new strategic focus is now equipping families with tools and resources to achieve economic mobility. Since the start of the pandemic, we have developed a successful online learning community focused on Financial Literacy, Digital Inclusion, Entrepreneurship and Wellness & Stress Management. Supporting over 300 families representing over 1,000 individuals, we provide a social safety-net for families living with the challenges of poverty. We provide much needed basic necessities to families while they take part in our education programs. This support buoys up the families so that they can focus on other important learning and growth to help lift themselves out of poverty. Members are able to qualify for additional tiers of membership giving access to special opportunities like Back-to-School supplies, Holiday toys and gift cards. Participants are not just accessing a service—they are participating in a mutually supportive community that is focused on self-development and discovery. Opportunities are available for participants to provide insight and feedback that help shape the program for the needs of the community. Sunday Friends is intent on cultivating a community where each member can have a voice, be valued, and find value. Sunday Friends'​ name and program grew out of a group of volunteers visiting a family homeless shelter on Sundays. As the group developed, the participants starting referring to the volunteers as their 'Sunday friends'​ coming to spend the day with them. Now, more than 25 years later, Sunday Friends continues to provide learning opportunities for families to thrive into the future.
