Opus One is the story of a shared dream of two great men of wine: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and renowned Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. By combining the great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families, the founders’ singular goal was to create an exceptional wine in the heart of the Napa Valley. Situated 60 miles north of San Francisco in the Oakville appellation, Opus One’s vineyards comprise 169 acres and are planted to the traditional grape varieties of Bordeaux: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Cistercian monks planted the vineyards of Le Clos Vougeot in 1110, inspiring Domaine de la Vougeraie to this day. Bouchard Aîné & Fils has built its family reputation in Beaune since 1750. Buena Vista Winery is California’s first premium winery, founded in Sonoma in 1857. These are just a few examples of the remarkable history of the Boisset Collection. Deepening the legacies of each of its estates is at the core of Boisset’s mission.

As fifth generation Hess family, Tim and Sabrina consider themselves stewards of the brand and the land. When Donald Hess came to California in the 1970s, he was attracted to California wine and became fascinated with Mount Veeder. Although few in Napa Valley were cultivating vines at elevation, Donald Hess believed the volcanic slopes of Mount Veeder provided the ideal combination of soils and microclimates to yield elegant wines with rich, complex flavors. A pioneer by nature, Donald Hess was determined to defy convention and pursue winemaking at elevation, so in 1978, he established The Hess Collection Winery on the site of one of the region’s oldest wineries. He took the opportunity to marry his two creative passions in life—wine and art—and he established an art gallery within the winery as a means of sharing his private art collection. Donald Hess and his wife, Ursula, met through their shared love of art, and today, Ursula’s daughter, Sabrina, and her husband, Tim, continue the family legacy of sharing wine and art and the family’s ongoing commitment to making both accessible to all. Tim and Sabrina have chosen to call the Napa Valley their home. Tim was raised in Southern Africa and Europe, Sabrina raised in Switzerland and London, but the Napa Valley is where they have found their true calling. They strive to impart their own influence on the winery and support state-of-the-art innovations. Together, they continue to advance The Hess Collection as one of the premier family-owned and family-led companies in Napa Valley, and they are hopeful that someday their children too will carry on the Hess family heritage.

V. Sattui Winery is a family-owned property located in the heart of Napa Valley that was founded in 1885 and makes more than 60 different wines with dozens of 90+ point rated wines among its current vintages. V. Sattui wines are only sold direct to consumer and the winery features three beautiful tasting rooms where customers can find and purchase their favorites. It is a stunning, must-see Napa Valley destination for picnics, weddings and events, offering an impressively robust Cheese Shop with more than 200 selections. Executive Chef Gerardo Sainato and his staff create mouthwatering salads, sandwiches, paninis, and entrees in the Deli. V. Sattui also makes house-cured meats from its own Salumeria, and gelato and sorbetto from its own Gelateria. The sprawling estate includes two-dozen picnic tables nestled beneath ancient Valley Oak trees and tri-level terraces that overlook beautifully manicured gardens and vineyards. V. Sattui Director of Winemaking, Brooks Painter, has been recognized as “Winemaker of the Year” in 2015 by the American Fine Wine Competition. He was previously awarded “Winemaker of the Year” at the San Francisco International Wine Competition in June of 2013. In 2015 V. Sattui was named “Winery of the Year” for the fourth year in a row at the Winemaker’s Challenge, and received the title a second time in the Critic’s Challenge International Wine Competition. In addition, V. Sattui has earned the title of “Wine of the Year” in 2015 for two wines: 2012 Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon at the Monterey Wine Competition, and 2011 Paradiso at the Critic’s Challenge International Wine Competition. V. Sattui wines are sustainably farmed and are sold exclusively from the winery, direct to consumer. The winery welcomes visitors daily for wine tastings between 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. daily (9 a.m.-5 p.m. during the winter months), as well as barbeque on weekends in the warmer months of the year.
