Since 2010, Woodlawn United has served as the community quarterback, leading an alliance of partners committed to building a pathway to prosperity in Birmingham’s Woodlawn community. Our holistic approach to community revitalization follows a model established by Purpose Built Communities, an organization that helps struggling communities across the country implement proven and effective strategies to end concentrated poverty. Working alongside residents and local stakeholders, we prioritize initiatives and leverage resources across three main pillars: a cradle-to-career education pathway, high-quality mixed income housing, and community wellness programs. Woodlawn United has made a marked difference in the community through: Construction of the state-of-the art James Rushton Early Learning & Family Success Center, which serves up to 100 children, ages 6 weeks to 4 years. Establishment of I3 Academy, under the State of Alabama’s Public Charter School law, which serves grades K-6 with an enrollment of approximately 520 students and is expanding to 7th grade for the 2022-2023 school year. Creation of Woodlawn WORx, a placed-based workforce development initiative to holistically address economic mobility needs in the Woodlawn community. Construction of 64 multi-family townhouses that are rent-restricted and serve families with low to moderate incomes. Construction of 12 new single-family homes in a planned neighborhood and sold at market rate. Creation of the Homeowner Rehabilitation Program which has served over 128 families by providing needed repair work for those in need. Creation of (WE) Lead Fellowship Program to identify and develop individuals who desire to improve their community and give voice to traditionally underrepresented community members. Focus on community wellness and wraparound services that provide access to high quality health services, wellness programs in schools, green spaces, healthy foods and quality retail amenities.

We are committed to helping businesses and consumers foster a marketplace of trust. We support our military, assist our seniors, empower our youth, and hold businesses to higher standards. BBB is committed to helping consumers find businesses they can trust. Your continued support helps us have the ability to provide more public outreach and scam awareness, conduct investigations into unethical business behaviors, and continue dispute resolution efforts.

Created and managed the chart of accounts and budget from the start of the business. Managed 3+ million-dollar budget, performed comprehensive accounting operations including: accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking/treasury management, general ledger, payroll administration, financial reporting, budget analysis, budget planning and preparation. Prepared quarterly and yearly tax documents. Oversaw yearly audit review. Created and implemented all financial procedures. Presented the financial reports monthly to the Finance Committee and Vestry each month. Oversaw the stewardship campaign each year. Oversaw all aspects of the IT department including purchasing, managing support contracts, etc. Utilized Microsoft Office Suite, ACS Technologies, Slack, Trello, Jotform, etc. Accomplishments: ❖ Managed the Communications Department on top of the normal Finance Duties from 2017-2022 ❖ Oversaw the contract draws and purchasing of supplies for the 10+ million-dollar construction of the new church building ❖ Led the Finance team through 2 changes of leadership ❖ Finished fiscal years with a surplus the last 17 years due to strong financial disciplines ❖ Served on the Gulf Atlantic Diocese Finance committee and performed financial review of smaller churches in the deanery while serving on that committee

The Southern Development Council, Inc. (SDC) is a U.S. Small Business Administration Certified Development Company (CDC) founded in Alabama in 1983 as a non-profit. Since that time, SDC has funded over 1100 small business loans and helped their borrowers create over 21,000 jobs. For over five years SDC has been ranked as the SBA’s leading provider of fixed asset loans for Alabama businesses. SDC is the only organization of its kind endorsed by Alabama Banking Services, a division of the Alabama Bankers Association. Projects have been approved for manufacturers, breweries, retail, government contractors, service businesses, rail yards, quarries, medical offices, veterinary clinics and a variety of business types. Costs financed include building acquisitions, renovations, new construction, equipment, furniture and fixtures and a number of combinations. Leasehold improvements and equipment are also eligible.
