In partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the State Arts Agencies of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee — with additional funding from other public and private donors such as the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation — South Arts supports artists and organizations through a rich and responsive portfolio of grants, fellowships, and programs. Why? Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the State's theater, builds community by engaging, entertaining, and inspiring people with transformative theatrical performances and compelling educational and community programs. Each year, some 100,000 people — nearly half of them students — visit our stages to see classics, Shakespeare, contemporary plays, musicals, and new works. We serve our community by staging productions that recognize its diversity of people, cultures, and ideas. When the pandemic halted our season, we found new ways to serve: producing online performances and workshops — including a series of original works by Southern playwrights — and constructing masks for local organizations and healthcare facilities.

The Dance Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1975. Our programs celebrate the creative spirit and potential in all of us. The Dance Foundation is grounded by the belief that dance is a powerful and profound experience for all ages and abilities. Our mission is to teach the art of dance to all, inspiring creativity and confidence. We build skills, creativity, confidence, and community through these main programs: • Community Partnership Program, serving typical children and those with physical, emotional, or economic challenges; • Studio Program, with need based scholarships; • Contracted Training Programs, for educators; • Studio Use Program for Community Artists, for community artists and arts organizations. The Dance Foundation reaches 20,000 children and adults each year through these programs, which are based on a nurturing, inclusive and skill-building philosophy. We have a volunteer board of directors and a volunteer support organization, the Children’s Arts Guild. We own our facility and earn an average of 70% of our annual budget through fees for services. Remaining funds are secured through a diverse collection of sources – local, state and federal government, foundations, corporations and individuals. We have a rich history in collaborating with area school systems and community service organizations.

Since 1973, the Dothan School of Dance under the direction of Tracy Solomon and Ashlie Wells has provided progressive level dance training for students of all ages so they have the opportunity to strengthen their bodies and minds as they grow to love the art of dance.

The GHSA is a voluntary organization composed of over 450 public and private high schools. The GHSA strives to promote education in Georgia from a mental, physical, and moral viewpoint; to standardize and encourage participation in high school athletics; and to promote sportsmanship and an appreciation for and study of music, speech, and other fine arts through regional and state competitions.
