South Shore Elder Services is the Federal designated Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and State designated Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) for 11 cities and towns in Massachusetts. Serving the cities and towns of Braintree, Cohasset, Hingham, Holbrook, Hull, Milton, Norwell, Quincy, Randolph, Scituate and Weymouth, South Shore Elder Services employs over 100 staff members who provide assessments, advocacy and assistance to elder and disabled Consumers to assist their remaining at home in the community for as long as possible. Little People's College was founded in 1980 by two sisters, Sandy Rego and Joyce deSousa, who were public school teachers and mothers of preschool age children. Together they developed a unique curriculum which included the skills which children would need when they entered public school. The learning begins when a child steps through the door and continues throughout the day. Little People's College locations have been nationally accredited since 1992 and continue to pursue accreditation for the newest centers as they reach their first anniversary. There are currently 14 locations and the curriculum continues to be reviewed and updated annually to include the most current changes to local, state and national requirements. PACE-RI, pace-ri.org, is the non-profit health plan for adults aged 55 and older who want to remain at home while receiving care for complex or chronic health issues. Founded in 2005, PACE-RI provides both insurance and medical care, as well as a range of health and social services that include adult day care, transportation, and meals at sites in East Providence, Woonsocket, Westerly and Newport. Taking a comprehensive approach to well-being, PACE-RI keeps medically complex participants out of nursing homes an average of four additional years as compared to their counterparts living independently without the supports provided by PACE.
