The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has been dedicated to ending hunger for more than 30 years. The Food Bank started as a one-day demonstration project on World Food Day in 1981, and to address the needs of hungry families, began permanent operation on October 16, 1982. Originally, the Food Bank was located in a converted movie theater in Steelton. The Food Bank initiated a capital campaign, raising 1.5 million dollars directed to the construction of a brand new warehouse. Then, in 1994, the Food Bank relocated to its current facility in Harrisburg. Mission: Fighting hunger, improving lives, strengthening communities. At the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, we live our mission every day. It is our passion.
