During a time when businesses were failing across the country, a small paper mill in Canton, North Carolina was thriving, leaving employees in need of a safe place to save their money. Founded in 1907, Citizens Building and Loan first opened its doors in the BA Bennett and Company building between Trade and Poinsett Streets.
