LITTLETON CONSUMER COOPERATIVE SOCIETY INCORPORATED

Littleton, New Hampshire

Littleton Food Co-op is a member-owned grocery store featuring local and conventional produce, a full-service delicatessen with hot prepared foods, a diverse and expansive bulk foods section, craft and conventional beer, wine from vineyards near and far, quality meats, fresh seafood, a wide-ranging hybrid grocery selection, and an extensive health & beauty care selection. Member-owned Littleton Food Co-op strives to serve the North Country of New Hampshire and the neighboring Northeast Kingdom of Vermont by providing a broad range of high-quality conventional, natural, and local food products offered at a fair price, with outstanding service. The Co-op exists to serve our members and our community, not to ship away profits to a far-away out-of-state corporate office. Membership isn’t required to shop at the Littleton Food Co-op, but community members should consider joining! Our member-owners help govern the Co-op by annually electing our Board of Directors and contributing in other ways — from suggesting items for the store to serving on volunteer Co-op committees. Our member-owners also help us maintain the Co-op’s mission of supporting local growers and producers, encouraging healthy life choices, and promoting environmental and economic sustainability locally. In the early days of 2006 a movement began to bring a regional cooperative grocer to Littleton. An initial informational meeting called by former President Jeffrey Wheeler and former Vice-President Michael Claflin drew an enthusiastic crowd of more than 300 locals from Littleton and surrounding towns in New Hampshire and Vermont. Membership in the Littleton Consumer Cooperative Society quickly grew during months of planning and consultation with a wide variety of experts in various disciplines. The initial 13,500 square-foot retail space opened in May of 2009 on the intersection of RTE 302 and Cottage Street in Littleton, a stone’s throw away from Interstate 93 and Littleton’s Historic Main Street.
