The LIUNA National (Industrial) Pension Fund (LNIPF) was founded in 1967 by the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) and employers of LIUNA members for the purpose of providing retirement income benefits. Established for non-construction workers, LNIPF covers workers in a broad range of employment, including professional, dental, manufacturing, and service contracts. Federal government, public sector and others in various job classifications are also covered by the Fund. There are more than 24,000 active participants covered by the fund while more than 13,000 retirees are receiving benefits. LNIPF is governed by a Board of Trustees that is composed of three Union Trustees and three Employer Trustees. The Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) was created under the Securities Investor Protection Act as a non-profit membership corporation. SIPC oversees the liquidation of member broker-dealers that close when the broker-dealer is bankrupt or in financial trouble, and customer assets are missing. In a liquidation under the Securities Investor Protection Act, SIPC and the court-appointed Trustee work to return customers’ securities and cash as quickly as possible. Within limits, SIPC expedites the return of missing customer property by protecting each customer up to $500,000 for securities and cash (including a $250,000 limit for cash only).
