UNION COLLEGE KENTUCKY
UNION COLLEGE KENTUCKY
Barbourville, Kentucky

Union College, nestled in mountains of Eastern Kentucky, is a vibrant piece of the Barbourville community. Steeped in a rich history and an evolving sense of purpose, Union’s commitment to education and to the region is embodied in its mission statement: To serve the academic needs of a diverse community of undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education students in a dynamic, personal environment that promotes intellectual, spiritual, and physical enrichment of students, faculty, and staff and the economic growth and health of our Appalachian region. Formed in 1879, Union’s purpose was to educate the next generation of teachers and professionals in Barbourville. Barbourville was, at that time, the largest town south of Richmond, and over the next 50 years, Barbourville would produce two Kentucky Governors, including Union Alumnus Flem Sampson, a United States Congressman, and a US Senator. Union’s success has been demonstrated in the accomplishments of its alumni - in 1993, Dr. Phillip Sharp won the Nobel Prize for Medicine for his work in RNA splicing, making Union College one of only two institutions in the Commonwealth of Kentucky with a Nobel laureate among its alumni. Dr. Marcetta Darensbourg was named the 2018 SEC Professor of the year, following being named to the National Academy of the Sciences in 2017. In 1999, Mary Stanton was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her book, From Selma to Sorrow: The Life and Death of Viola Liuzzo. Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey have repeatedly earned accolades as top Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and breeders, including the award for most wins in a given year.

CHRISTIAN APPALACHIAN PROJECT, INC.
CHRISTIAN APPALACHIAN PROJECT, INC.
Paintsville, Kentucky
100-499 employees
For over 50 years, Christian Appalachian Project has served the people of Appalachia by building hope, transforming lives, and sharing Christ’s love. Our work started when Reverend Ralph W. Beiting, a Catholic priest from northern Kentucky, was assigned to pastor a large portion of east-central Kentucky. Through his outreach, he witnessed tremendous poverty in Appalachia. He saw children weak from hunger, families beaten down by hardship, seniors living in fear and isolation, and communities desperate for hope. With the help of family and friends, he provided food, clothing, and other essentials to neighbors in need. What started small quickly grew, and Christian Appalachian Project was founded in 1964. Through donor support, dedicated volunteers, and a selfless staff, CAP now touches the lives of more than 1 million people each year. By working with other local food banks and humanitarian service providers, our reach extends to parts of all 13 states of the Appalachian region, including Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The mission of Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) is building hope, transforming lives, and sharing Christ's love through service in Appalachia.

HEARTHSIDE BANK CORPORATION

First State Bank was founded in 1899 by George H. Reese in Pineville, Kentucky. His vision and strong character not only shaped the bank's success, but also established a trusted reputation in the community. Mr. Reese's dependability was a major factor in the bank's growth, with many depositors bringing their savings to the bank because of his reputation. First State Bank was referred to as "Mr. Reese's Bank" in its early history, showcasing the close association between the bank and its founder. Today, First State Bank remains committed to the same mission as its founder - to provide trusted banking services and take care of its valued customers. The success of First State Bank is closely tied to the involvement of the Reese family. George H. Reese started the family's legacy at the bank as a cashier in 1899 and eventually became its president until his death in 1951. The bank's leadership was then passed on to his nephew, George R. Bentley, who served as president until 1963. George H. Reese Jr. held the office of vice president before his passing in 1967. George H. Reese III joined the bank in 1960, working his way up through various positions and serving as the Chairman of the Board of First State Financial until his death in 2009. This long family tradition in banking demonstrates First State Bank's commitment to serving its customers, just as it did in 1899. In 1998, Katherine J. Reese continued the legacy. With her prior banking experience from Bank One in Louisville, KY, First Guaranty Bank, and Barnett Bank in Jacksonville, FL, Katherine worked her way up the ranks at First State Bank alongside her father. In 2007, she became President/CEO of the bank and today, she serves as the Head of the Board of Directors and CEO. Katherine continues to prove that the Reese family is dedicated to serving the community and providing exceptional customer service. The growth of First State Bank took a significant turn in 2000 with the acquisition of The Lexington Bank and Town and Country Bank. Both banks were known for delivering quality and customer-friendly financial services, making them a natural fit for First State Bank's expanding family. Over the next few years, new branch offices were opened in Lexington, Williamsburg, and Jellico to meet the increasing demand for banking services. In 2004, to better reflect the diverse range of financial services offered, First State Bank, The Lexington Bank, and Town and Country Bank were consolidated into First State Financial. In 2007, First State Financial opened the New Tazewell Banking Center, and the acquisition of Mountain Valley Insurance in 2008 allowed customers access to a full range of insurance products and services. To better serve customers in New Tazewell, a new branch was opened in 2017. First State Bank offers a wide range of financial products and services including checking and savings accounts, loans, individual retirement accounts, certificates of deposit, debit and credit cards, online banking, bill pay, and remote deposit capture. In 2017, First State Financial was renamed First State Bank (of the Southeast), restoring the original name of the historic bank. Over a century after its founding by George H. Reese, First State Bank continues to uphold the principles and standards of excellence set by its founder. The Reese family's long history of faithful involvement and commitment to customers serve as proof of the bank's unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction. Today, First State Bank is poised to continue providing top-notch financial services to its customers for many years to come.

FARMERS AND MINERS BANK
FARMERS AND MINERS BANK
Pennington Gap, Virginia

The charter for The Farmers and Mechanics Bank was granted on March 31, 1869. Chauncey Colton founded F&M Bank, was its largest stockholder, and served as its first president. He and his associates chose a name that related directly to the real builders of the town, those hardworking farmers and the shoemakers, blacksmiths, carriage builders, and printers—all who were called mechanics. The original bank offices were located in the elegant corner room of the Union Hotel. In 1903, the bank moved to northwest corner of Main and Cherry Streets. In 1980, the construction of the current main bank and drive-up began. With a charter dating back to 1869, F&M is the 15th oldest bank in the state of Illinois and ranks among the top 4% of the banks of this age in the United States. F&M Bank is proud to have built trust and long-lasting relationships with generations of customers. Throughout our history we have provided quality loan, deposit and trust and investment services to businesses, farmers and individuals.
