Paragon Steel was founded in 1994 as a 50/50 joint venture between Jerry Henry and Steel Dynamics Inc., as the SDI Butler mill started producing flat-rolled steel. Paragon began as a trusted marketing partner for SDI, handling a diverse mix of SDI-produced material. After acting purely as a distributor, Paragon built its first processing plant, on SDl’s campus, in 1996. As the processing business grew, Paragon later acquired a second processing plant on campus and doubled its size in 2004. In 2016, Jerry Henry acquired SDI’s interest in Paragon with a focus on expansion and growth in both sales and toll processing. Today, Paragon has two ISO 9001-2015 certified processing facilities located on SDI’s campus. Paragon receives material inbound daily via rail from supplying mills. Rail shipments inbound from SDI are freight free, utilizing Paragon’s fleet of rail cars. Paragon provides daily outbound rail shipments to destinations throughout the country.
