For more than 155 years, the Children's Home Association of Illinois (CHAIL) has provided community support services to at-risk youth, the people who love and care for them, and the people who no longer can. The services provided at CHAIL don't just impact the individual child, they create positive ripple effects within their immediate family, neighborhood, community, and world by providing the opportunity to thrive. Our vision is to change the lives of kids who will change the world. We believe every child in our community deserves an opportunity to succeed, despite the insurmountable barriers that have been placed in their way. We offer clinical support services, educational services through our Kiefer School and the Academy for Autism, foster care and residential placement, community support and clinical services, and prevention.

Our group homes provide a family atmosphere where four to eight individuals live together with 24-hour staff support. Each person has their own room, which they are encouraged to personalize. Open Door also utilizes a special dietician-directed meal program called My25. This program considers each person’s health requirements and encourages individuals to help with meal preparation. We also offer assistance for individuals seeking intermittent support. These services are for people who live in their own home or apartment but also need help every now and then. Our staff develops personal relationships with the individuals we serve and offers services in all aspects of everyday living. Open Door is focused on opening doors and developing opportunities for all of our clients. This means that we provide support in every aspect of life, assisting with personal care, doctor appointments, and medication management. Our clients also receive guidance on money management, personal shopping, and laundry assistance. The levels of support are uniquely designed around the specific needs of each person. Fun and recreation are also a big part of services at Open Door. We provide transportation to a wide variety of events and activities. Clients have the opportunity to attend sporting events, see concerts, visit museums, and take outings to local parks. We also have groups that attend dance classes, yoga, and open swim sessions. If an individual has an interest, we try our best to satisfy their need in order to promote independence, growth, and an exceptional quality of life for every person we serve.

We offer a range of programs and services to provide EP!C individuals with the educational, residential, employment, and care taking resources they need. By empowering our participants to live their best life, we enrich their lives, the lives of their family members, and larger Central Illinois community. Educational Services: Participants have the opportunity to engage in sensory learning, adult life skills education, work skill acquisition, gardening, and computer activities. We also offer unique extracurricular activities and clubs, including art, dance, fitness, radio, volunteer, cooking, music, and more. Community Living Services: Participants have multiple accommodation options with EP!C. They may choose to live in group homes of varying sizes with around-the-clock care, be more independent in an apartment setting, or be matched with a host family. Employment Services: EP!C offers a variety of employment opportunities through community and organizational employment to meet the abilities and needs of our participants. We also provide job and work skills training in preparation for employment, continuing job coaching during employment as needed.

Step By Step Inc. has been providing quality Early Care & Education programs for children 6 weeks to 11 years old since 1993. Our mission is to provide every child an opportunity to grow and learn in a warm and loving environment. Our six programs are fully licensed as Day Care Centers by the Illinois Dept. of Children and Family Services. Our Alton and Brighton locations offer a part-day Illinois State Board of Education Pre-K program for eligible children. All of our centers also provide a USDA approved food program for all children enrolled.

Lifesong for Orphans is bringing joy and purpose to orphaned and vulnerable children through indigenous orphan care around the world and foster care initiatives in communities across the United States. We facilitate no-cost church and private adoption funds nationwide and provide adoption grants and loans to adoptive families. Our mission is to help all people - women, men, and children - to live free from violence and abuse. The Center for Prevention of Abuse (CFPA) is the only agency in the state of Illinois to provide combined, comprehensive free and confidential services to women, men and children, of all ages, who have been affected by domestic violence, sexual assault/abuse, human trafficking, or elder abuse. CFPA also provides Adult Protective Services to disabled individuals, between the ages of 18-59, who have been affected by abuse. Additionally, CFPA provides school based prevention education to nearly 36,000 students annually, with programs on body safety, anti-bullying, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships. CFPA has two domestic violence shelters in Peoria and Pekin, offices in the Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford County Courthouses to assist with Orders of Protection and facilitates an abuser re-education classes are offered in another Peoria office. Medical advocates are available 24/7 to respond to victims of sexual assault and/or domestic violence who obtain medical treatment in the emergency departments of area hospitals. Annually, CFPA serves more than 5,000 individuals seeking peace.

In the early 1970’s, a group of women known as the Women’s Development Council were concerned about the prevalence of domestic violence around them—in their lives, their friends lives, and in the community as a whole. The idea for a shelter—a safe place for victims--was born and Mutual Ground was incorporated in August 1975. The goal of this new agency was to provide emergency shelter for families in crisis and offer 24-hour services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, to include counseling, support, and referrals to other agencies. The first shelter opened in1978 on the top floor of a property rented from the First Presbyterian Church in Aurora. The nation’s economy was ailing, which at the family level translated to higher incidences of domestic violence and sexual assault. Fortunately, things turned around and in 1984 Mutual Ground purchased a two story house on North Lake Street that could serve 14 women and children. Sexual Assault services were housed in a separate building on Lincoln Ave. The need for domestic violence services surged in the early 90’s and Mutual Ground found it was turning away hundreds of women and children each year due to lack of bed space to house them. A search began to find a big enough building for everyone who needed “shelter from the storm.” In 1995, following an enormous $2.3 million capital campaign, Mutual Ground was able to purchase and renovate the building. And after more than 20 years of Sexual Assault Services in one location and Domestic Violence Services in another, Mutual Ground could finally put all services in one place in 1996. Today, in a given year, Mutual Ground provides services to about 1,500 victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, our prevention education program is in 1,750 classrooms and we can accommodate 28 women and their children in our emergency shelter. Our budget is now at $1.8million with a staff of 43 and calls to the hotline exceed 1500 every month.
