DAVE THOMAS FOUNDATION FOR ADOPTION
DAVE THOMAS FOUNDATION FOR ADOPTION
Columbus, Ohio
50-99 employees
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national, nonprofit public charity dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of adoptions of children waiting in North America's foster care systems. Created by Wendy’s® founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs and builds awareness around the growing need and importance of foster care adoption in various ways. We also develop resources for employers and families to support the adoption journey. Through our signature program, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, the Foundation provides grants to adoption agencies to hire and train recruiters in our child-focused recruitment model to find loving, permanent homes for children in foster care. This model is up to three times more effective at serving children who have been in foster care the longest, including older youth, siblings and children with special needs. The Foundation offers a free library of resources to help families navigate the adoption journey, such as Finding Forever Families: A Step-by-Step Guide to Adoption and Strengthen Your Forever Family: A Step-by-Step Guide to Post-Adoption. The Foundation also works to build awareness around the growing need and importance of adoption from foster care through public service announcements, social media campaigns, articles, events, sponsorships and more.

DIRECTIONS FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES
Columbus, Ohio
100-499 employees
"Empowering youth and their families to make sound choices and achieve promising futures." Directions for Youth & Families offers programs that provide community-based treatment and prevention services that emphasize commitment to the family, school, and work. Services are provided through innovative programs that focus on the redirection of self-defeating behaviors and assisting youth and families in leading positive and productive lives. We believe every person has a right to grow up in a healthy environment, free of neglect and abuse. We affirm people’s right to self-awareness, self-respect, self-fulfillment, and confidentiality. Youth and families can best learn new behaviors in their natural environment and we believe that strengthening family relationships will bring about the most significant changes. We support the basic values of the human service field beginning with where the client is and protecting an individual’s right to self-determination. Our accepting and non-judgmental approach respects each individual and the family unit, recognizing strengths in diversity, culture, values, and belief systems. We promote an individual and family’s right to choose. Our purpose is not to make choices for people, nor tell them what to decide. We discuss options with those we serve and respect their decisions, thereby preserving and affording people the opportunity to learn and grow from the choices they make regarding their lives.
