La Cooperativa de Seguros de Vida de Puerto Rico, COSVI, es una empresa netamente puertorriqueña. Se incorpora el 11 de diciembre de 1959, no obstante, comienza a operar el 14 de septiembre de 1960, en respuesta a la necesidad de protección que los líderes cooperativistas de esa época tenían. COSVI se crea por la necesidad de acceso a seguros de los cooperativistas como consecuencia de la creación de diversos tipos de cooperativas agrícolas y de ahorro y crédito. Fue tal la demanda de seguros y crecimiento que tuvo COSVI en el Movimiento Cooperativo Puertorriqueño que al poco tiempo expandieron los servicios a otros sectores no cooperativistas.
