Firelight is a premier destination for non-fiction cinema by and about communities of color, co-founded by filmmakers Stanley Nelson and Marcia Smith. -- Firelight Media is a nonprofit organization that supports nonfiction filmmakers of color and cultivates audiences for their work. Firelight Media’s artist programs include the Documentary Lab, an 18-month fellowship that supports emerging filmmakers of color, and the Groundwork Regional Lab, which supports early-stage filmmakers in the American South, Midwest, and U.S. Territories. Firelight Media recently launched new funds for mid-career BIPOC filmmakers: the William Greaves Research & Development Fund and the PBS/Firelight William Greaves Production Fund. Firelight Media also offers the Impact Campaign Fund, which addresses a resource gap in the nonfiction space for impact and audience engagement-related projects by and for communities of color in the U.S. Firelight Media also produces documentary short films in partnership with public media organizations. Ongoing series include 'In the Making,' which highlights the work of emerging BIPOC artists as seen through the lends of BIPOC filmmakers, presented in partnership with PBS American Masters, and 'Homegrown,' a regionally-focused series highlighting communities of color across the U.S. and U.S. Territories, presented in partnership with PBS Digital Studios. -- Firelight Films is a documentary production company founded by award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson.
